Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.

Saddle on up to a stool and spill the beans about your day, fire away with them questions, or let loose and give us the lowdown on your wild and woolly life. We're all ears, so don't hold back!

We're open round the clock, so mosey on in whenever you please!

I keep waiting to screenshot the SN header with a $69420 price, but I've missed it every time today. Closest I got was $69418

Hey Freaks,

The journey of our lifetime is litterally between the bitcoin and fiat monetary systems. I'm getting Oregon Trail/Underground railroad vibes. Its funny how most people see bitcoin as some sort of crypto stock, when its actually the friggin land of the free.

Thanks,
Hustle

reply

I'm litterally out here, switching operating systems and consumption habits. If your a bitcoiner and your not busy as hell right now, your not bullish enough. If your not optimistic about the future, your not bulish enough. I would even dare to say, that if your not on nostr and thinking about UTXO management, your not bullish enough. Nowadays I'm looking at Apple Music like its Psyop Music, Stacker News like its pure alpha, and the bitcoin price....... like its the bitcoin price.

reply

I think someone zapped and unzapped me a million sats.

I was checking the leaderboard and it showed that I had stacked over a million sats, then it dropped back down to 70k.

Has anyone else has noticed anything like that?

reply

You can unzap people? How?

reply

It's in the settings. If you enable it, you get like 5 seconds to rescind your zap.

I found it kind of irritating, because I like to change pages quickly and that was messing up my zaps.

reply

I just assumed the recipient wouldn’t be notified until the 5 seconds were up. @ek can you clarify?

reply

Yes, it's actually a cancel zap instead of a real undo. It just looks like an undo for UX reasons.

reply

Yea, that makes sense. This was also probably infinitely easier to implement than the other way.

reply

Oh, good to know. Don't think I'll enable it though. Reversible transactions are so fiat.

reply

I think it could be a bug or something, it was showing the total amount I stacked instead of this month too.

cc@ek

reply

That's not nearly as fun. Unless we think it's a result of them tinkering with the rankings formula to rig the contest.

@ek we caught you red handed.

reply

I've told you that is rigged :)

Let’s learn about ramen 🍜

  • Was first known in Japan as β€œchuka soba” (Chinese-style noodles)
  • Rairaiken, a restaurant in Asakusa, Tokyo, was believed to be the first to serve ramen in 1910.
  • Ramen gained popularity after WWII because rice was scarce. So many shops served ramen due to cheap flour supplies.
  • Gained credibility after a ramen shop was listed in the Tokyo Michelin Guide 2015.
  • In 1994, Kumamoto Prefecture’s Ajisen Ramen initiated the globalisation of ramen culture by opening their first international store in Taiwan, followed by stores in Beijing and Hong Kong.
  • Many types of ramen have been created, including Sapporo miso ramen & Hakata tonkotsu ramen.

reply

I was a US college student who survived on really cheap (4 for a dollar) Oodles Of Noodles in the 1970s. The generic knock off brands were 5 for a dollar. Each package came with a powdered flavor foil. Now there are fancy ramen places everywhere.

reply

Thank you for this! You made me understand why people always laughingly jest about having ramen (no eggs) when the market is bearish n their portfolio is red. I have always known ramen as a gourmet food and for it to be considered cheap has baffled me haha

reply

Ahhh! Very interesting. I have learned a lot too. I always had a feeling that there was "real" ramen out there that was much better than what I was eating.

β€˜But x-coin has attributes that can really benefit Bitcoin…. β€˜
β€˜Yeah….. No!’

reply

I see where you're coming from, I used to hold altcoins for those exact reasons. But over time and as I learned more, I came to the conclusion that Bitcoin is the best and that's what I'm sticking with. I look at the world around me and I recognize that smart contracts are a functionality that Bitcoin definitely needs.

reply

I don’t know. Bolting stuff onto Bitcoin is like putting an alter on the back of a priests car - it’s kinda handy but it would be better left in the church.

If we want Bitcoin to have additional functionality (for whatever reason) we are better off creating that in a software system and using Bitcoin as the medium of the protocol and not the method .

reply

It's an interesting perspective, but I'm not sure I agree. L2s are definitely gaining traction, but I don't think they're the only ones who will be successful in the long run.

reply

Definitely, Natalia is a woman of many talents. In Portugal, there is also a strong tradition of pottery, mainly in the Alentejo region, but it also exists in the north of the country with a particularity: they use black clay.

reply

not yet, more like just being curious to see how things are being made. πŸ‘€ and wow, why they use black clay.?

reply

The reason for the black color is unclear for me, but the tradition dates back to the 16th century. It's worth noting that the clay itself isn't black. The black color is achieved during the firing process in a soenga, which is a type of oven dug into the ground. After the pottery is fired, it's covered with moss and earth, which gives it its final appearance.

reply

the more interesting thing for me is how people figured out that they can use clay to make things!

reply

Yes, it's a story that's over 9,000 years old. That's definitely very impressive.
