I see no plants there... your book is still useless :)

A book is never useless. And if you notice, I also have an axe, but it's made of stone and wood. In other words, I have an axe and centuries of knowledge, and you only have the axe 😂

reply

then someone is cheating 👀

what happened to you can only bring one thing with you?

reply

What else are you talking about? 👀

reply

how come your PS skill is so good, but it should be copper pot! you can use it with fire or even sand:)

and where is @lux with beer 😂😂😂😂

reply

Copper slipped my mind. Lux and Bugle are sleeping after drinking a beer and smoking a joint. They know Darth will chop wood and build a shelter.

reply

sounds like paradise

reply

Natalia uses her copper pot to cook 😂

reply

almost sounds like I should start selling the copper pot too - one of the top three tools Bitcoiners would choose for survival! 😂

but seriously, why don't Bitcoiners identify what's the most important thing and start working on it? me quietly working on natural clothing...

you can bring a scissor to join us if you are willing to ditch the book! then get the wool from the sheep then to weave 😂 we will all got nice clothes later on, how nice.

reply

I'd rather eat the sheep and make good use of its skin. I'd be starving like crazy! Ahahaha

such short-term thinking 👀

you can let the sheep make more babies first while making all the clothes you need!

Can someone explain how the estimated rewards on the leaderboard work. Not complaining here but slightly confused as to why estimated rewards were higher when I wasn't even online then after I spent the last two hours zapping, posting, commenting, replying.

I have a post on the hot page and was the first to zap and comment on two other hot posts.

I don't get it.

reply

Based on our very fine detective work, remember to look two or three spots above where you are for your rewards estimate.

reply

I dropped something like 4 positions last night and I saw that others came with me. Someone else is climbing the charts. Its a fun little experiment though.

reply

I'm pretty sure estimated rewards are based on rank and total prize pool.

Each rank has a certain share of the reward pool (I even seem to remember seeing the breakdown posted somewhere on SN).

So there are only two things that change your estimated reward: the prize pool getting bigger or your rank changing.

You may zap or post like a champ, but if someone else is zapping and posting to a more champion degree, you might see your estimated reward fall.

At least this is how I think it works in my fuzzy head.

reply

yes, here is the secret formula for each rank #445483

reply

Thanks for sharing.

reply

That makes sense. I did drop down one place in the rankings.

reply

Looks like you are correct. I jumped back up 1 spot and my estimated rewards jumped by 13k.

Uh oh, looks like you fell back down.

46 days of 100 push ups a day until $100k down. Undetermined to go.
42 days of 100 squats a day until $100k down. Undetermined to go.

Effective yesterday I have switched to 2x50 sets.

reply

Awesome! After a month and a half of doing this, have you notice an improvement of the ability to do push ups / improvement in strength?

I don't know if you recall, but I try my max number of reps in one set every Sunday. Last Sunday was the first time I was able to complete all 100 in one go. All these push up each day really seem to be improving my strength. I'm glad and thankful that you started this challenge.

reply

Yes I have noticed a difference. 25 push ups in one set became too easy which is why I switched to 50. I can complete 50 without too much trouble but definitely need to fight through the last few, so I think it is a good switch.

reply

As we all get stronger, maybe 150 till 150k could be a thing.

reply

This is part of my thinking in converting to sets of 50. I can just add an extra set when we hit 100k and switch the goal.

Daylight saving really kicking my ass this year. Playing hookie with work. Not in the mood the be hot and uncomfortable all day. One benefit of learning trade skills is that I don't really worry a lot about my job. When I work I put in an honest effort, but when I don't feel up to it I don't even try. Yesterday I sliced open a little bit of my right ring finger while manhandling a piece of equipment. Amazing reminder that money isn't worth my well-being. I'll expect to be in better spirits tomorrow.
I'm going to try to do some writing. I've got about 18 essays to go to finish the 100 for my series.

Is this a crazy idea? 🫣
What would you suggest to him?

reply

not crazy but sounds fun!

reply

I suggest for him to report back to us at the end of the day and tell us how it went.

reply

I'm going to be in an all-day retreat at work today and tomorrow. That means no SN (which I've rapidly become hooked on), but also no stacking in general, no reading articles, no nothing.

To be clear, my job is great. I make enough in fiat to cover needs and stack on the side, I can mostly WFH, I rarely have to come in to the office, I have a ton of flexibility, I genuinely like my co-workers, and I can get work done and also get all the side stuff done -- not just stacking, but just ingesting tons of information in general, and also being around for any family needs. Short of true financial independence (which I'm working towards), it's about as good as a job for fiat can get.

I have maybe six days a year when I can't do this. It's a tiny price to pay all things considered. But my whinging instinct hits hard on those six days, and I need to remind myself that this is the trade-off.

Thanks for the space to vent. See folks tonight.

reply

no SN or just no SN during the day? because no SN means you'll lose your hat.

The power of your haikus lies in how there is such a marked contrast between the first two n the last lines. It’s like your haiku mocks at the absurdity of human nature.

reply

How do you mean? I’m afraid i twist them as more ‘punch lines’ than in the the traditional sense. Not sure everyone likes that though.

reply

Yes, the punch line is exactly what I meant. So I do get your haikus and where you are coming from.

Don’t worry. You don’t have to make everyone happy. You just need to find your tribe, of which I’m a proud member of xP

What's the point of having territories?
#462197

reply
It's clear that people come here because of bitcoin

I don't!

I like bitcoin, I like giving and receiving zaps but I don't read or post many things on the bitcoin territory. I rarely select it on the dropdown menu. Most of the things I read about bitcoin here come from the home page (hot & top).

My favorite (active) territories are: meta, devs, builders, linux and a few more. I also liked the now archived christianity territory that was founded by @jimmysong

reply

The point is that people can share their knowledge and their thoughts about different topics.

It's clear that people come here because of bitcoin, and at this point I'm struggling to understand the point of territories. It can be seen as a mere speculative product offered by SN.

Why is it clear that people come here because of Bitcoin?

Nowhere is it said that SN is an exclusive Bitcoin forum. Read the definition SN founders wrote:

"Stacker News is a forum (like Reddit or Hacker News) where you can earn sats for creating or curating content. Rather than collecting “upvotes” that are not redeemable or transferable on Reddit or Hacker News, on Stacker News you can earn sats." In Reddit, you have "communities", here you have "territories".

For me, that's the beauty of SN: Everyone can share his knowledge in the territory (topic) he knows well and can learn from others who are experts in other territories.

Am I wrong @k00b, @kr, @ek?

reply

That's exactly my point

reply

for experiments 👀🧪 but the best territory still is the @saloon!

What's the point of decaf coffee?
Same as 0%alc beer - piss

reply

The key thing is that there's demand for this product. If there's demand, then it's worth selling

the thing is that this "demand" is fake.
It was created artificially...

That's not the point. Isn't that what anarcho-capitalism is all about? If there's demand, there should be a product to sell.
