I don’t understand this
it's complicated, stay tuned.
I went to see Dune with my wife today. It was the first opportunity we've had to go out on a date in quite a while and thankfully the movie was very good. We both liked part 1 quite a bit and I'm a big fan of the novels.
Here's a review of Dune part 2 that I largely agreed with and that doesn't really have many spoilers.
I'll also try to get a book/movie review up in the next couple of days.
My wife and I did exactly the same today. It was good. I liked both movies a lot. Very refreshing change from the garbage pumped out by Disney lately.
I wouldn't say they're close to my favorite movies, but they are very impressive and I like that they are very different from anything else being made.
It's nice to see a movie that is legitimately artistic and that clearly a lot of care went into making.
They sort of remind me of 2001: A Space Opera, in that they show the story of the book very well, but I prefer the high level of detail and exposition in the books.
I really enjoyed the book, one of my favorites. I've been hard selling it to my 2 older kids, and my son started reading recently. My daughter continues to ignore me and keeps her nose dived deep into Rick Riordan stuff, but I will persist on the hard selling.
I find the first movie quite enjoyable and am very interested in going to see part 2 in the theaters. Problem is finding time to go...
Looking forward to reading your review.
I felt like part 1 was a 2 hour trailer for part 2.
Did you enjoy the movie?
Yes. Part 1 and part 2 combined are 5 hours well spent. Read the book too and you've got yourself a pretty full week.

Cool route. I wonder if someone had taken it and documented their journey online?
If anyone has it's this guy https://www.seat61.com/
I've never heard of anyone doing this train journey before, but it's definitely possible that someone has.
It would take forever with all the stops
Haha good point!
😂
Neat. How long does it take and how much does it cost?
These are good questions that I don't have an answer to. But if I had to guess, I would say it's probably around 2 or 3 weeks and around 2000 euros.
Bitcoin only 🤙onward

Feels that way but I think Genesis has a couple more days of GBTC dumping to do. Not sure if that will happen this week or not but they were dumping thursday and friday. Fortunately the new ETFs ate up all the outflow but that definitely suppressed the price or we would have been ripping if 400M didn't get dumped each day.
Oooo. Snail on steroids…

GM my friend!!! Have a blast and enjoy the beautiful day!!
Thanks! You, too!
feels like the average post quality on SN is trending up lately 👀
I noticed that too. I think stackers are making this effort because nobody wants to miss out on the 64 madness.
Perhaps Million Sat Madness working as intended?
👀
In terms of improving the content, I think so. I'm not sure yet if this will attract more stackers or alienate those who can't make it to the top 64.
In theory, I think improved content means more attractive to consumers of content. I don't think it will alienate those who don't make it to the top 64, as those who don't hit top 64 probably are not very active zappers or content creators. I could be completely wrong. The market will decide; the numbers at the end of the month will tell.
yeah tbd on how people outside the top 64 feel, but worth noting that these stackers are not getting “nothing”… they still get all the zaps others get for great content. they’re just not getting the bonus rewards.
@ek when did you change your nym?
It was announced one or two SN releases ago
Ahh I missed it! And I missed him/her/it😫
...and why might Iceland use your old nym?

Farmer protests in my city today.
Happening in India too, at the capital.
However for different reason and seems to be funded by some cabal.
They are demanding government intervention in the market to provide a minimum sale price for their crop and more freebies from the govt.
There is an election nearing, psyop games in full swing.
Really? Farmers are revolting…
Yeah. Tractors everywhere. We were all giving them the thumbs up as they passed. Not sure where they were headed, could be towards London.
Head about the Welsh farmers earlier this week. Long way to London! Odd how the media aren’t picking up on it.. (not really)
because snails are responsible for climate change 😂😂😂 They eat too much leaves and trees are dying
Ahh! Mel Brooks!
It's a busy week ahead, so today is couch, TV, and some gaming. And the weather's not really conducive to walking :(
Cousin sleepover day, gonna be a wild one!

In Malawi, where I'm to spend some time, 3 March is Martyrs Day. Commemorating the people who are believed to have fought and died for freedom. I don't know how true that is, but I love to hear about heroes who sacrifice their whatever for others.
Sadly, it suffered the almost unavoidable 30-odd years of authoritarianism post- the colonial handover to emerge as a country that is struggling with poor natural resources beyond agriculture.. i hope it is able to make continued progress for its people.
I know it's a big country, but any chance you've seen the big bitcoin mining set ups that power that little village? Also, are you anywhere near the lake?
I'm in Lilongwe, the Capital of Malawi. I'm not sure if I can make it soon to the lakeside, because I just learned that the road is so bad this fall. But I can't leave the country without visiting the village with the Bitcoin mining set ups. Hopefully this March, I will be able to get there.
I always wanted to see the lake. I enjoy keeping cichlid fish from that lake. Interesting critters.
Day 323 of snailposting everyday 'til BTC hits $100k.

And the snail has arrived….
3 March is Hina Matsuri, a Japanese doll festival for girls. My wife promptly displayed this:
https://m.stacker.news/18530
Coincidentally, today is my 69th day of wearing the cowboy hat. I take it as a good omen!
Cc @Bitman
Yay another festival day! Your wife and daughter must love it.
Here's two questions that you might be able to answer: why has the Japanese birthrate decreased over the years (I've heard one reason, and want to hear from another source).
Secondly, why the 3 pin plug? That looks like something from England. Has Singapore a historical connection to England? Colonization?
Tough question. I would say that the Japanese are predisposed to marriage and child-rearing. It’s in their DNA. Young people kinda get freaked out about not settling down by a certain age and go for matching parties.
However, more and more young Japanese find that being connected to others is troublesome. This explains the weird trend of people getting married to their sex dolls. I think there could be many reasons why people shun from establishing connections. Work is tiring, they wanna have their own time to do their stuff, some people are in sexless and/or weekend marriages.
I think overall the Japanese are not optimistic about the future of their country. Which explains why they don’t want to bring another human being into this earth.
Yes, Singapore was colonised by the U.K before. Sharp eyes!
Yikes, none of that sounds great.
The explanation that I'd heard centered on the idea that traditionally Japanese women are expected to end their career in order to raise children.
The hypothesis continues that modern Japanese women neither want to end their careers, nor want to buck tradition, so they largely choose to be childless in order to follow their career.
I can't remember where I'd heard about this hypothesis. I wonder if it's based on fact.
Yes it is true. I covered it under “they wanna have time to do their own stuff”. Stuff meaning advancing in their career or fulfilling self-actualisation needs like travel.
Well birth rates are plummeting all over the world, not just Japan
Does a lot of work go into making display dolls? Is it considered an artwork?
Everything is an artwork in Japan. I’m sorry that I don’t know more about how these display dolls are made to give you a more substantial answer. Haha.
Does showing you my daughter’s dinner yesterday help a bit? This is the art my wife created:
https://m.stacker.news/18621
That’s cute. I would be creeped out if that was served to me and I wasn’t expecting it though…. I dont like my food looking at me lol
Do you know that we Singaporeans devour fish head curry? Haha
Now the price has stabilised I worry slightly less about the snail having an heart attack. Hope it has it’s ventral foot up today…
It could be too busy with the Million Sats Madness 😜. Have patience
I still don’t get it. I’m just going to keep zapping what I like and value…. can’t be playing games or jumping around like an excited child. I was thinking about taking a break if I’m honest.
Those breaks are important. I'm getting away in a week or two later this month. I always like to get away for St Patrick's Day to avoid the drunk lunatics. Wait, is that racist? You don't need to be Irish to act like a moron in these parts on St Patrick's Day.
Run away from the Guinness drunks! That could be considered cultural appropriation… but it’s just an excuse for a drink and singing anti-British songs.
It's probably still a real holiday in Great Britain. Not here.
It’s a real holiday in Ireland. Great Britain ended its colonial occupation and rule of Ireland in 1921. There is a certain awkwardness, and racism, around that settlement with regards to Northern Ireland (which remains part of the United Kingdom) which means St Patrick’s day is largely ignored in Britain.
It always amuses me seeing how popular it is in the U.S. and other parts of the world and yet not in the U.K. Hadn’t really considered the reasons until you mentioned it.
