I meant the “test drive” promotional rate of 88 TH/s for 3 hours for 500 sats. I think you’re right that the normal auctions work with existing accounts. But the promotional rates setup a new mining account for you

Correct, the 500 sat test drive is a promo
The "88 TH/s for 3 hours" test drive earns around ~2,000 sats from any FPPS pool, and so gating it with the ready-made mining pool account allows us to intro new folks to mining w/o too much of a loss.
