Let's Talk Music. Share Tracks. Zap Sats.
This week's submission from me is our maid of honour, Enya!
Mornie utulie, Mornie alantie.
Enjoy. Let's go!

Heart - Stairway To Heaven

This, this is brilliant. We've had Heart (Anne Wilson) & Stairway to Heaven recently on the territory but this is them together. Just fantastic, incredible and the ending, Boom πŸ’₯

Ouaahhh , very nice version
reply
I'd never heard heart do this song before... But I echo 02 on this. This is spectacular!

Christine McVie - Fleetwood Mac - Say You Love Me

One of the great voices on some of the greatest songs ever. Here's one of her lesser known Mac songs.
Here's a live version of Everywhere from Tango in the night

Everywhere

reply
Stunning vocals. May she rest in power.
I keep trying to get tickets to the cover and "rumours of Fleetwood Mac" as they're meant to be the closest thing to the real thing.

Alannah Myles - Black Velvet

From 1989, I do believe she was a one hit wonder.
Last week I posted Jennifer Rush's Power of Love saying that track was probably on every Rock or Soft Rock compilation mix tape I had in the 90s. Alannah Myles was probably the next female artist with Black Velvet

classic one :)
reply
Oh dude... This song... That bass riff... I love this track, there's something seductively sexy about that track. It's just great.
Check out this version by Sershen& Zaritskaya I loved this version too.
reply
I said I'd been saving them up! haha I like this cover version! I'm signing off now but I check back in later and see what more delights have been posted 🀩☺️
reply
I thought I came in strong with Enya. But Allannah Myles, Celine Dion, AND Whitney!! What a day to be a music fan. Incredible submissions.
reply
Oh dude...
I have to break to you NME, I'm a chick πŸ˜ŠπŸ’ƒπŸΌπŸ™πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ
reply
Chicks can be dudes... Or dudettes... Is dude just shorthand for dudettes? πŸ€” I'll try to bare that in mind next time so I don't accidentally misgender people using terms like dude.
reply
Or dudettes Haha I was trying to think of something along the lines. Don't worry I'm not offended. I get referred to as mate, dude, him all the time in the bitcoin space. It's very testosterone heavy 🀣🀣 It doesn't help when I'm still just a random number
reply
I'm glad you're unoffended but thank you for pointing out my inherent and unconscious bias. I need to try harder as the custodian of this territory to be inclusive and not inadvertently make people feel unwelcome in this space. I'll do my best to check myself going forward.
02 you'll never be a random number to me, you'll always be 02, until you change your nym... Then you'll be the Stacker formerly known as 02 🀣 or perhaps 02 lion, who then just goes back to being 02.
reply
Thats's ok, I go by either one! Just don't call me late for supper!

An absolute masterpiece of a record about one night stands, or a letter to the universe, depending.
reply
Don't do that to me DotNet...
Why is everything going blurry... Why does my face feel wet... I'm not crying you're crying.
This comes on it goes to 11 and my lungs try to follow it. Masterpiece.
Where do you stand on the Avril's dead and got replaced by Melissa conspiracy theory?? That's always a good πŸ‡ πŸ•³οΈ to dive into.
reply
oooh love a good conspiracy theory hehe
reply
It can be quite a compelling arguement at times. Vocal changes, slight differences in mannerisms etc etc. TLDR the theory goes, she died and was replaced by her body double because she was making a record label too much money and they weren't done milking the cash cow yet.
reply
All very interesting... I had a quick look at the "official narrative" on Wikipedia and the guardian, which will of course be the opinion they want everyone to have. I'd never heard to this before. Have you seen the comparison photos of Swift/LaVey? that's quite a likeness. There's definitely a lot going on in the industry... I think someone posted a link about Katy Perry recently and I was going to come back and comment later (but forgot) about a video at an awards show when she was married the Russell Brand. He told her off for swearing on daytime TV then got a little plaque out, which he distinctly held up, with the word "obey" on it. It was really spooky, her whole demeanour immediately changed from there on. People were surmising he was her handler at the time. Another time she talks about how she wanted to be like Amy Grant but it didn't work out so she sold her soul to the devil.
reply
Interesting ... I made a thread. Thanks guys!
reply
Uh oh here we goooooooo
reply
Madness isn't it, but what's also crazy is it's not that farfetched. And if it was all proven true I wouldn't be a little bit surprised.
reply
Oooh that would be a good one for the ~conspiracy territory. I would have to dive in first, and then comment :D

Niagara was a French rock band that achieved popularity both in France and Canada in the 1980s and early 1990s. The band, who was known under the name L'Ombre jaune from 1982 to 1984, was formed in Rennes, France by vocalist Muriel Laporte (later known as Muriel Moreno [fr]) and keyboardist Daniel Chenevez [es].Early on, the band also included guitarist JosΓ© Tamarin, although he left before the release of their first album. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niagara_(band)
reply
Beautiful voice Roll. Great shout, I'd never heard of them before really happy to have been introduced to them.
reply
Great rock sound. Shame they never did an English version as I think the band would have gone down rather well in the UK in the late '80s. I'd have definitely stumped up Β£8.50 to see them.

French music never went worlwide (or a little) as many countries in the world (and it s not for a lack of artists)
Probably cause of the language, as it s the english language/culture.. has been spread over the world.
reply
I think that's such a shame because of how beautiful it can sound. There's lots of Spanish songs worldwide (but also Spanish is the 2nd most widespread language behind English).
Germans done pretty well globally within certain niches eg. Rammstein.
It is a shame that french music doesn't get the time of day. I mean I don't speak Korean but I know that BlackPink are a worldwide bestseller. In my view, you don't have to speak the language to appreciate the music. Sure there's some nuance and clever lyrics that you may miss by not understanding it. But that's what googles for, go look it up later and then appreciate how clever it was yaknow?
reply
Agree, in their own language they can be huge but still limited to that geographic market. Unfortunately "Big" music isn't going to get behind them for the US, UK, CAN, AUS & NZ markets where there's big bucks to be made, but it has to be in English. Would Abba & Roxette have done as well singing in just Swedish?
reply
i won t say better than that :)
it may also come from the negociation done at the end of the 2nd world war with the Marshall plan to spray in that case American Culture and so English Culture in a way.

Nearly the end of Monday and I've just time for one last femme fatale or maybe it should be fatales. A cracking country version this AC/DC rock classic. Shania has a great voice but to get AK & Union station as your backing band is something else.

Shania Twain with Alison Krauss & Union Station - You Shook Me All night Long

reply
Man, I'd forgotten all about this concert! What a treat to have Shania with the Union Station band backing and Alison backing on vocals. I used to listen this a lot. Gonna have to dig it back out now.
reply
It's not on Spotty, but the whole concert is on YT.
reply
Wow! I'd never seen this before. Shania + ACDC 😍😍😍 fantastic! Great share.

Dimming Of The Day - Alison Krauss & Union Station

This is my most favourite cover of this song written by Richard Thompson. It think it's a difficult song to get right but Alison nails it. Can't fault it.
reply
I've heard of this Richard Thompson guy. But I've never actually checked out his stuff.
Alison sounds great, really lovely soft sound. Gorgeous voice.
reply
Actually he did a version of this song with Bonnie Raitt. If I'm remembering correctly, he might have done a whole album with her. Or maybe I'm talking rubbish and the brains cells dimming haha
reply
I think maybe I just had a Bonnie Raitt album and a Richard Thompson album around the same time. I'm going back to Britannia Music club days here. They sent you tapes in the post and if you liked them you kept them, if not you just returned them. Hehe those were the days.
reply
Wow man ... Postal service tapes... That's a fair old way back.
reply
Mariah Carey is certainly bestselling female of all times
reply
I haven't heard this song in years! 😊
reply
As for best selling female of all time, that honour goes to Madonna unfortunately. I say unfortunately, but that's another πŸ°πŸ•³οΈ Mariah comes in at number 4
reply
She is a stunning vocalist. And 100% deserves her spot in the Femmes Fatales HOF
reply
Just realised this is the last Femme Fatale. I was lining Trisha up for next week. These two are fairly well known as they featured in the films Con Air and Stuart Little 2 respectively. Amazing voice

Trisha Year wood - How Do I Live

You're where I belong

reply
Trisha! Whatever happened to her, she sorta just disappeared. Wicked voice. Great artist to submit and definitely deserves her place in the Femmes Fatales Hall of Fame.
reply
Agree, she has such great talent and very comprehensive back catalogue. I believe she did a cooking show and maybe some acting.
These are two great tracks. She has so many it's difficult to make a choice. I think one of my favourite tracks of hers is Real Live Woman, which is also appropriate for Femme Fetales. I'm annoyed I didn't think of it 🀣🀣
reply
I definitely need to think of how I'm going to bring femmes fatales back, or even extend it or change it to weekly. πŸ€” I got some work to do to think of how I'm going to do this. It seems to be what the people want.

Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway

Great sing from Kelly, has a big epic sound to it, very uplifting taking on the world feeling
reply
She. Has. Lungs. What a belter, few can do it like Kelly can she's a helluva vocalist.
reply

It's all Coming Back to Me - Celine Dion

Yes it really is 7 minutes and 39 seconds πŸ˜† but it's a belter. What a voice.
If you are getting Meatloaf Vibes it is because this song is by Jim Steinman. According to Steinman, the song was inspired by Wuthering Heights, and was an attempt to write "the most passionate, romantic song" he could ever create. I'm not going to say any more but you can read further here (according to Wikipedia) if you like.
reply
Originally by Pandora's box in 1989, with follow up versions from Meatloaf and Celine Dion around 96 I think. Amazing song and a beautiful vocalist.
reply
Yes, it's shame. I don't really don't remember the Pandora's Box version being that popular at all in 89. I think Meatloaf but especially Celine made the song much more well known!
reply
Absolutely. And I'm not going to lie I had to Google it. Because I was about to come in here like "yeah that's a great cover πŸ˜‰" and point to the meatloaf version as the original, but no it was Pandora's Box. Personally being a huge meatloaf fan, I'd heard his version first but Celine also beat him to the punch in 96 as meatloafs version was released with Norwegian singer Marion Raven in 2006, 10years later for Bat out of hell 3.
So I concede to Celine on this πŸ˜… she put together an incredible version of this song. She deserves all the recognition she gets as an amazing singer.
reply
Can you tell me which Enya track? I get this message from YT: Video unavailable This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds
reply
I went for "may it be" because it's my favourite. But there are lots of amazing Enya tracks.

Whitney 🀩🎀πŸ”₯

I can't let the last Femmes Fatales of the month go without posting Whitney Houston. But there are just too many to choose from and not enough time. I just have to post THE classic Dolly Parton song. I don't think anyone has done this song more justice than this.
reply
Such a sad sad story πŸ˜” she was an incredible vocalist and musician. I have nothing, is one of those songs that always goes straight up to 11. May she rest in power. a true icon.
I gotta find a way of bringing back Femmes Fatales in some way, this month's theme has been so much fun and we've had some wonderful submissions of some incredible women.
reply
Yes, try and bring it back somehow πŸ‘
reply
If there's enough going for it, could do a weekly? Wednesdays Women in Music? Or something like that. πŸ€”
reply
Really love this heavy version of a popular song.
September - Cry for you (Rock cover)
reply
Oooooooooooo that's got a bit more meat on the bones to chomp down onto it. Wicked vocals. She smashed it.
