My coworker colleagues started talking about Bitcoin last week. I think it's because the price has been going up a lot lately. Since they know I'm interested in Bitcoin, they keep asking me about the price. But I always tell them the same thing: I don't really care about the price anymore. For me, Bitcoin is about much more than just making money. It's about a new way of thinking about money and finance. It's about a more decentralized and democratic future. So, while I'm happy to see the price going up, it's not the most important thing to me.
Nobody IRL has mentioned it.
There has been an uptick in discussions on financial boards, but sentiment remains very negative.

No one. For one, all the people I talk to day to day are bitcoiners. For two, the ETFs will make normals feel like they own bitcoin or can own bitcoin and eliminate the reason to ask us about bitcoin. For three, until we get new USD ATH we are still in a bear market, media outlets won't be gasping at the price, and normals will continue to regard bitcoiners as losers for believing in an asset that doesn't only go up.

I wonder how much ETFs will subtract from retail spending on exchanges. It really seems like the only benefit is to have something in a tax advantaged account... I guess it makes it really convenient if you want to have everything under a Fidelity or other brokerage...
reply
It will completely deter new entrants that only care about price exposure from creating exchange accounts. That's probably 99% of new bitcoin buyers. Hopefully they'll get curious and fall down the rabbit hole once their ETF holding appreciate, but most of them will rebalance out of the position a few times first.
Even after falling through the rabbit hole, the majority of them won't leave the ETF because the risks are too abstract. They'll be like all the gold bugs that hold no actual gold. We should all be thankful that we joined bitcoin when it was hard, because most of us would've avoided all the pain of self-custody otherwise.
Bitcoiners in the current sense are like computer programmers and bitcoiners in the future sense, ie price exposed, are like computer users. Meaning, the proportion of people that really get it will be vanishingly small relative to benefactors.

It will be interesting to watch if/when the first ETF custodian gets hacked and loses some BTC....

Imagine the wall of rage we'll face once we dump after the initial $ 100k crossing, only to shoot up higher again... Some will never learn.

Same.
I much rather they ask me about my cowboy hat because this means they would have noticed my SN presence and are intrigued to post (and maybe use my referral link haha)

a few more than usual, but nothing crazy… yet

Not that many so far, but a few. I told them to get educated about it, and that if they had questions they could ask me , and not to use the word "crypto" around me, and for God's sake to avoid shitcoins.

Zero, but just this night I've dreamt parents and friends started asking me if/how to buy it, and I started getting real anxious about it. So now I am actually relieved it's still zero.
reply
Yeah there are so many "reasons" for Bitcoin and you really have to meet people where they are.
But don't stress too much, because the majority of people just want to know if it's a good investment, and you can just tell them it's the best performing investment in the last 15 years.

No one, but my parents last time asked me "have you sold yet?".
reply
More than before but nothing extraordinary. People that sold everything and know they want to buy again but better way and some beginners asking for couple of classes also family started to ask again.
reply
Everyone, especially those who didn't want to know anything about bitcoin 10 years ago

Not getting any normie talk yet. The only people who have mentioned Bitcoin to me are people I have orange pilled noting the price has moved up a lot. Which I guess is their way of saying sorry for besmirching my good name the past couple years. Haha.

I'm on vacation and wait for messages from my mates. However here I have some conversation about perfection of Bitcoin with some strangers
reply
Zero.
When the psyop machines start telling people to think about bitcoin we will start hearing from normies. My guess is we won't start hearing much until we see new ATH.

democratic future
What does this mean in the context of bitcoin?
Democracy is a scam and if you want to be free you shouldn't care about such thing.
reply
In the sense that EVERYONE can participate. I see where you're coming from when you say that democracy is a scam, but can you tell me another system that has proven to work even minimally?
reply
Not everyone can participate in Democracy. It's a failed system that's unfair and corrupt.
A better system (true democracy) would be: i choose my leader, you choose yours. You follow the rules and laws of your leader/party.
reply
Who can't participate in a democracy? In my opinion, it's not the democracy that's corrupt, but the politicians. That doesn't mean the system is bad. I'm not saying it's the ideal system, but we can learn from history, and I think so far we don't have a better one that works minimally.
True democracy, but isn't that what we have already? I must not be understanding what you mean. Are you saying that there should be multiple leaders within a country?
reply
Who can't participate in a democracy?
Check out North Korea, Russia, China, Venezuela and most countries worldwide. Do you really trust their democratic system?
Even the last USA and Brazil elections had their share of fraudulent activities. Not to mention woke leftists EVERYWHERE who want to ban all right-wing parties from running in elections.
Elections were also paused on Ukraine, and oposition jailed.
Do you really think democracy is fair system? It doesn't work. Never will.
reply
NK, RU, CH :)

Yes, with this system we all have the freedom to choose our leaders, and each leader will bring their own set of rules, laws and social economic decisions to the table.
You choose your leader, and you follow him. I choose my leader, and i follow him.
If your leader turns out to be corrupt or makes poor decisions, it is ultimately your fault and those who chose him. I don't suffer because of YOUR bad decision.
The beauty of this system lies in its fairness, as we all have the power to actually choose our leaders. True democracy.
