study bitcoin, or learn bitcoin doesn't sound like bitcoin for beginners. Because I feel we as bitcoiners we can have a lot of experience but still have to keep learning bitcoin forever. There is always new things and developments.
I created this territory as a place where those just starting to learn about bitcoin can find help and resources, and where dumb questions are encouraged.
It's a long journey. Fortunately there are many people on Stacker News who are very generous with their time and advice.
Welcome to the new world!
That territory is just a unmoderated fly trap. I support more @siggy47 initiative to valorize educational content instead of shitposting and rants about bitcoin
If people just post garbage in the territory, it doesn't matter what name have.
A territory like this ... for beginners" must have ONLY curated content, to help beginners, not confuse them more...
The intention is good, to have like a repository for new stackers, where to start reading, curated content, to walk them through easily and not bombard them with shit tons of links from news, podcasts, crap articles that will only confuse them more.
All that random content is already on main bitcoin territory...
The comments this post received really got me thinking about more important things than the name.
First of all, should this territory even exist? @benthecarman doesn't think so. He might be right. I will give this thought before next month's fees are due.
@DarthCoin feels like it should only exist if moderated. That makes sense, to the extent that it would prevent crappy, confusing links to be posted. On the other hand, I have an aversion to moderation, and I'm always suspicious of anyone claiming the mantle of supreme oracle, who gets to decide what's good or bad. I actually considered a moderation form that is based on crowd sourcing. Let a consensus of stackers decide what is the best learning material. I don't know whether that's possible, though.
Assuming I don't take your advice, I wonder if moderation based on zaprank would improve the territory? Perhaps culling all posts deeming crappy by consensus?
@DarthCoin guides could exist in this territory. Think about the day you founded: what was the aim? Probably something that was not offered in the main bitcoin territory.
True is that name make little difference, the contest does much more for a territory to be successful.
You'll always find people against you. Believe in your vision and blindly ignore the noise!
Ben is right, the whole territory doesn't make sense.
We better use /bitcoin to educate newbies directly, when is the case.
My guides could be pointed when are needed. I am still not convinced if have to be in a separate repository. Also are many other good guides out there and video tutorials, my guides are quite niche.
I would agree with a special section for newbies, where they can find some guidance, with curated content, and mostly about how to use SN and BTC/LN.
Who to approve this section or maintain it? I don't know, I don't want to be that judge, I was already accused of too many things.
Happy to find my vote in the majority (Learn Bitcoin).
The advantage of this name is that we all benefit from continuing to learn about Bitcoin (it's an ever expanding and deepening subject) and this name will better attract advanced learners along with beginner learners, which is a good mix to have, in my opinion. (Like the old 1 room schoolhouses, where children of all ages learned together.)
