Sharing one more privacy hack in Nostr - I don't follow anyone there.
Because anyone can log into your account to read what you read, I don't want what or who I care about in public; also, be careful of what or who you interact with there - all the likes and replies are all public information, something you CAN'T delete or undo, it's quite a good exercise of self-responsibility. 👀
(the alternative solution is that you create an anon account, just for reading)
Privacy protection 101 is knowing what's public and private in the first place. Otherwise, no amount of encrypted apps or practices could work if you are blindly sharing all your life details online.
I wish I could tag this into ~privacy

Probably about time for a dedicated post in ~privacy about nostr
reply
probably - many people are using it, but not many are paying attention to how to use it safely.

I don't follow anyone there.
That seems a bit extreme to me and breaks the spirit of the nostr. What if everyone did the same?
reply
haha, I might do this later, but then I don't use Nostr that much, and I don't like all this follow and follow back social media thing, e.g. I don't follow you in public that doesn't mean that I don't pay attention to you or I follow you it also doesn't mean that I agree with everything you say.
you can also selectively show your followings
reply
right! But with this follow method, how do you do it? Do you go to each one individually or do you have another account ? you don't have to answer ;)
you can also selectively show your followings - as one of my quality checks for any accounts is what it follows: normies trend to follow average stuff, but good gems follow good gems.
