I know this is a bitcoin site, but are there any cat rescuers on here? I donate to local shelters and would like to get more involved.

I don't work at one but frequent them and support them. The last one I went to reminded me of a surgical hospital at wartime: so much need, much of it urgent, so few resources to meet that need. I expect if you showed up and said I'm available to help at these times, is there anything I could do? they would gratefully accept.

Yes. That's what I'm planning. I guess it would be satisfying, but also depressing.

I think that's a fair description -- probably the former in proportion to the latter, but it will take it out of you. I think they vary in their intensity and you can probably find a more chill one, but if you want to help where help is most needed it will probably tax you in some ways, blow your mind in others.

Thank you for your answer, and your generous tip, or whatever it's called. It was too much, but thanks. I will pay it forward.

I've been impromptu fostering 6 abandoned kittens for a while 🐱
It's tiring, but they're a fun bunch

Get involved with catch and release. Usually it is pretty easy to do. Getting strays fixed is a huge way of helping.
For many years we have rescued drop offs as well as captured strays, got them spayed or neutered. We have fostered kittens and kept several as pets. It can feel hopeless because of the shear number of animals that are dropped off and put down but even capturing a few can make an impact in your neighborhood.
Another thing you can do is get to know your neighbors and talk to them about getting their pets fixed. Let them know you are willing to help. They may be like minded but not know others like them are their neighbors. SN and online tools are great but sometimes we forget that we can just walk down the road and talk to people about things.

Great photos. Do you make the memes yourself?

I'm not that skilled, but I do plan to eventually start comics based on the Sats Cats universe, which is still in development

That would be cool. Do you ever play around with those online meme makers, where you can caption a photo? I heard it was easy.

I spend way toooo long trying to find the perfect picture/caption and then abandon it. I need to start stretching daily

I don't. They're mean, arrogant little sadists.
They deserve to be handled with respect, though.

It's only been a month or two that Stacker News has become more than just a bitcoin site, so you might be a little early. I personally have adopted a few cats in my life, but I don't know anything about running an organization like that.

Purr-fect place to pounce on is connecting with your local rescue centers and charities, fur sure! They're always in need of extra hoomans to lend a helping paw, volunteering and gathering nom-noms or cozy blankies. 🐾
