Loans on Stacker News? What?

Thanks @0xbitcoiner for your suggestion inspiring this post. This will be an interesting challenge and a defeat to the acclaimed @supertestnet' LoanShark plus many other projects trying to be the third party between "peer-to-peer" lending deal. True is certain mechanisms could be automated, and creating a system to do it make sense. But the winning party is inn most of the cases always the lender. So all these great platforms always just talk about the successful loans completed, but no oe talk about the shame and distress un unfulfilled loan can give to people. However, a totally differet topic... let's focus!
Another good point to support this idea, was a memory of those good two pages full of ads printed in 6pt when I was reading the local newspapers ages ago. And those pages, between job and real estate ads, always contained some shark looking to lend some cash. Why not replicate it in stacker news, then?
Without a systemic technology enabling the trade til competition, managing a P2P loan itself it's complicated, especially when there's no trust between lender and borrower, and trying to do it within the challenge of crafting the ~AGORA itself make it even more difficult! However, we can only provide the option to enable it and the guidance and support for both parties included in the deal, as we do for other types of deals here in this territory.
Let's see if I can define some guidelines on how it could be advertised, trying to find a nice structure similarly as done for the review ad-post type. And the question is then automatic: should we keep a generic [LOAN] tag or otherwise, how the counterpart will advertise then when looking to borrow? The tags might need to be representing the two sides of a loan, credit and debt, in the same way it happens for [BUY] & [SELL]. May it be something like [LEND] ad [BORROW]?
I can see being a lot of sharkers (loanshark+stackers) giving away credits, but not many looking and advertising to get in debt. In the same way, here like in the markets outside, there's not many people that are comfortable posting a [BUY] ad-post meanwhile the [SELL] offers are numerous and variated! There's a reason for it!
Choosing a tag goes is indeed a meaningless question to consider, far behind the offering or seeking for a loan itself, digitally? Here on a forum site? The only good thing I can see here is the P2P factor, other than that, I've always been against these kinds of toxic deals. But looking at the market, loans and bitcoin loans itself become a whole new sub-industry because of the benefits of not requiring a credit check, nor question asked, and some braves daring to offer it with no collateral upfront! Wow...
And secondly, how a structured loan ad-post type will look like? Which info are needed and which others will be a nice add-on to have/know before singing the agreement? Let's try:

Example for a Quick Loan Interest rate: 0% (ideally) Cash: from X to XXXXXX... Term: Y months Loan Origination Fee: Z% (if it pass 1 digit % fee it's usury) Free early repayment option

Example for a Flexible Loan Interest rate: from 0% (ideally) Some kind of collateral is suggested LTV: from 50% to 80% of the collateral value Loan Min Cash: XXX Term: up to Y years Loan Origination Fee: 0% (ideally) Early payment (before 30 days) fee Z% (if it passes 1 digit % fees it's usury)

I know this is a foolish post, firstly because have no background nor knowledge or experience in loans, secondly because doing it in a news/forum website sounds crap. But I did try building a marketplace in it with a reasonable amount of positive feedback, plus loans make a good part in moving the markets, plus I really wanted to explore the idea and see what others think about it.

That's all stackers, and thanks for reading until here!
I like this idea but don't think it jives with SN's legal focus. Opening up a can of worms. Also, why I am apprehensive to allow a sports book within the sports territory.

Make sense ad never thought about the legal aspects of it ad thanks for bringing up the legal aspect of it. So is then a @SN marketplace in the same plate?
reply
Hmmm interesting. Are they paying for the products through SN or just coordinating buyers through SN.
reply
Well, the idea is just to enable seller/buyer coordination = P2P. SN it's only the marketing/communication chanel. ATM the buyer is free to select its preferred payment method (SN could be one of the wallet) like in this ad.
If the "payment for goods and services via SN wallet" is (or could be) a legal issue, should we then make explicit and invite the seller to receive payments outside SN?

I would suggest you check with k00b and see what he recommends. I am sure their legal has reviewed all the money transmission stuff and what they can and can't do.

My biggest concern is people selling illegal stuff here. Hopefully we can make some better tools for this kind of thing eventually. When we add sell/buy/trade/etc post types, maybe outlawing can delete them.
Our wallet isn't intended to be used as a wallet for non-SN stuff. We are still working on understanding this better.

A loan is a gift
[GIFT] and [BEG]
Frankly, I don't want such drama here.
reply
I would not want it here either... ideally, bitcoin will remove the need to gift and beg at the same time when we all will live in abundance. Btw, these are the two best tags I could ever hear related to loans! Thanks for sharing!
There's any reference you can share about the "A loan is a gift"? Where it came from?

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you but Loan Shark doesn't have a third party between the two peers
There is just a borrower and a lender, no one else
(Well, except miners. I consider miners a counterparty to every transaction they mine.)
