First things first. I missed the weekly pick 'em shout out yesterday. So let me rectify that by congratulating @BTC_Bellzer for being the week 17 NFL pick 'em champ. Another multiple champion. Only one more chance at regular season pick 'em glory before the playoffs arrive. I will definitely be doing pick 'ems for each round of the playoffs but I think I might also do a Playoff Contest similar to what we did for the MLB playoffs and College Football.
Speaking of the bowl contest (or was it a challenge) we had a couple pretty exciting CFB semi-final games yesterday. Michigan and Washington will now face off in the Championship game next Monday. A number of participants have been eliminated from the College Bowl Contest ( actually, it was challenge). We have three remaining competitors vying for the 10k sats and bragging rights. @deerwhisper and @BlokchainB both currently sit with 5 points and both have Washington in the final game. @tnuts420 also has 5 points and has Michigan. A couple other competitors also still have Michigan but cannot surpass tnuts score. If Michigan wins we have a clear champ. However, if Washington wins we will go to tiebreaker and I will have to do math.
I was mostly watching the Sugar Bowl last night but I couldn't resist flipping back to the Raptors game to see how their recent acquisitions fared. Some things to clean up but good game for the Raptors.
I did not see any of the winter classic between the Golden Knights and Kraken but saw some highlights and the winter classic jerseys are definitely alternate jerseys I am down for.
Sats for all, GR
100 sats \ 1 reply \ @tnuts420 2 Jan
wow, i knew a lot of people had 'bama beating michigan, but i didn't realize we'd be down to 3 if the wolverines won.
be a shame if the same dude won both the nfl survivor pool and the college bowl pick 'em the inaugural year...

As long as the Lions don't beat the 49ers in the playoffs I am good with it. Haha.

I'm thinking about doing some sort of NBA trade prediction bounty, but I'm not totally sure how to structure it.
My first thought was to solicit predictions for specific trades people are expecting and then give the bounty to whoever was closest. That seems too ambiguous though.
Maybe just having people make a prediction about where a certain player will end up getting traded to is better. Then I can just do like a thousand sats for any correct predictions.
reply
Tough one. Maybe take a certain number of likely trade candidates (5, 8, 10 whatever number you prefer) and have everyone predict where they will go or if they won't get traded at all and the most correct wins?
reply
I like that. Bill Simmons did some sort of "most likely to be traded" list recently. I'll check to see if that will work. I think he focused on All-Star sort of guys, rather than elite role players.
reply
Since the likelihood of remaining on their current team is so much higher than ending up on any particular other team, I think I need to make correctly guessing a trade worth more than guessing a non-trade.
As I started writing up the post, I realized that if I were answering it I would just play the odds and predict all the players stay put.
Do you think making correct trade predictions worth 10x non-trade predictions is reasonable? If the list is 10 players and there's one trade, that would make it so someone who predicts that trade wins out over someone who predicts no trades.
reply
Yes, makes sense. I thought about that after the fact as well.
Alternative would be both are still worth 1 point but you can only use a certain amount of "not traded". If they ony have two or three no trade options to use more thought has to go into where to use them as opposed to just selecting all no trade.
Whatever you think is best.

I'm thinking that I'll go back to having everyone submit one player and trade destination combo. That way everyone can just share a prediction that they're actually interested in.
However, now I'll do something like 500 sats if the player actually gets traded and 1k if they get traded to the predicted city.

Just one per person?

That's what I'm thinking. "Shill me your best trade prediction.", is how some might phrase it.
reply
You had me at shill.
Wouldn't mind taking home the 10k sat prize as a consolation for PSU getting a bit embarrassed last week. If Michigan wins, not only do I not have shot at the sats but i also have to watch scUM win a natty... May be the worst day of my life. Go Washington XD
