There are many centers of power and interests; they're intertwined, but they're not the same. There are struggles between different imperial governments, between different corporate sectors, between different parts of governments, all the time.
So this is probably a power struggle inside the imperial top of the pyramid, between parts of the government aligning with Musk to push back against a media captured by -partial- interests of the ruling class. Which means it depends on who wins this struggle.. in the short term.
in the long term, these struggles weaken the power pyramid as a whole, so I suggest to enjoy it with some popcorn.
