First things first, in the flurry of activity yesterday- with the Survivor Pool ending and the king finally capitulating to our demands thus ending our siege of the Meta lands- I forgot to give a shout out to @BlokchainB for becoming the new weekly pick 'em champ. Nice run by @BTC_Bellzer but it is hard to 3peat.
Quick like a cat, @Undisciplined has already gotten up the post for the NBA in-season tournament semi-finals, so get your picks in. It's a quick turnaround with the games being played tomorrow night. Post is here: #340815
As for Stacker Sports, I am looking forward to seeing where we take this thing now that we have our own territory. I paid the fee but this sub belongs to all of us. If anyone has any ideas about how to make the sub the best it can be, please share. Please feel free to post, it is only 21 sats and provided we don't get spammers, it will stay 21 sats.
A bit of background on why I started posting about sports daily on meta. I joined SN November 2022 and instantly thought it was awesome even though one of my first exchanges was Darth scolding me and then me calling him an ass. No wonder why I loved it. The first sports posts I did were NFL playoff pick 'em bounties, which I just did for fun. They seemed to get a lot of interest (who doesn't like free sats after all), so I did them again for the NBA playoffs. I was thinking people are on messageboards, redditt etc all day talking about sports but they aren't doing it with the value for value sats model. Why wouldn't they want to do the same thing but earn some sats while doing it? Originally, I thought maybe there needed to be a separate "stacker sports" site and maybe one for music as well with SN essentially being a media brand with multiple different themed sites, but then they rolled out the meta sub. This changed my mind. We didn't need another site, we just needed a sub. At which point, I started pestering @k00b about a sports sub and in my impatient nature got fed up and decided it would be funny to stage a "coup" of the Meta sub.
My primary goals for Stacker Sports is for it to add to the value proposition of Stacker News and increase the awareness and adoption of the value for value sats content model. My secondary goal is to have a lot of fun doing it.
First contest post independence will be up today.
Sats for all,
GR
Exciting days. Take a moment to reflect on the victory of the revolutions you started and inspired.
I'll make a post about Risk Balanced Odds Arbitrage when I get a chance. I'm thinking of making degenerate corner a regular series that I update whenever I have new picks to make.

Great.
Now that we are in our corner of the world. I am going to admit I was pretty annoyed to see jeff had founded the econ sub and responded by saying your posts inspired him to start it. You brought that to finish line, not him. Honestly, my first inclination was let's fork it, call it macro, with you as the founder and jeff can talk to himself in econ. I can be a bit petty at times.
I was playing in the snow with my daughter when it all rolled out and Siggy was worried someone was going to snag Sports before me. I would have just created stacker_sports anyways (not a fan of the underscore but I wasn't allowed to use a space).
Anyways, I don't know jeff, I see he was an OG stacker but went away for awhile and just came back recently. Hopefully it all works out but I just want to commend you for what you did getting the meta econ going. Your posts were getting good engagement.

I appreciate it, but if someone else wants to pony up the 100k per month that's fine with me. I'm sure we'll continue having good econ talks over there. He may have been the one who offered a large bounty for the creation of an econ sub. That was the same day I started the meta takeover posts and I said then that I didn't care who got management of the sub upon our victory.

Who knows how this is going to play out anyways. I expect the great sub attrition to occur once people realize they are paying 100k sats and earning only a few k sats back from sub revenue. It will take a lot of time, effort and attracting many more users to the site/sub to ever reach break even.

I was wondering about that. What does the value proposition look like after half a day?
reply
Well I earned 6k sats yesterday but only 120 from the sub. Haha.

GR you pioneered the coup to bring us territories and now it's exploding. You did good bud! I wouldn't have started doing the music stuff without seeing your contributions.
21 sats per post seems reasonable honestly (I might up music to 21) at the end of the day no one should be out of pocket for providing a space for a community to grow and if users wish to benefit from that upfront payment, I'm sure they won't mind giving back a little.
Looking forward to watching (and participating in) this subs growth. You did good 👊
