For me it's been a few years. But back then I felt really sorry for people that still lived with their parents when at university. They basically missed out on on 1/5 of the best 5 years of their lives. Maybe nowadays I wouldn't word it that extremely but the general sentiment is still true imo

Actually, I was partly very independent also before 18, could spend time outside home with friends for a weeks. Started permantenly living not with any of parents at age of 20.

Housing and rents have become ridiculously expensive, making it really tough for the younger generation to leave their parents house. I left mine very late, but still sooner than the average in my country.

Its not that living is more expensive, living still costs the same it always did. The difference is most people living in the west do not have access to jobs that would pay for quality of life their parents enjoyed.
