What own custody wallet do you use on your cell phone to store your bitcoins? I like Muun Wallet :D
If you just want the simplest non-custodial one, go with Muun. If you want to be able to customize things a bit and maybe even use your own lightning node you can check out Breeze, BlueWallet, Phoenix. If you want a wallet with all the latest state of the art stuff implemented into it, check out Blixt. If you want to have full control of your lightning node, checkout Zeus. There's also an Android version of Electrum.
Remember to not put a lot of sats there, because it's a hot wallet, that is, the device is connected to the Internet.

I primarily use SBW for spending. I also have Zeus when I want to use funds from my personal node.
I think Muun is a good wallet for noobs. I really think the single balance approach to the UI/UX is the way to go.

I also use Muun, there's a big complain about Magnetron (their node) charging high fees on LN.
A non-educated guess tells me it partially has to do with the fact that they use Submarine Swaps (allowing you to do self-custodial payments using your on-chain (BTC) and off-chain (LN) balance interchangeably). If anyone knows any other wallet that can do this and work seamlessly I'd like to try it.
I tried reading about submarine swaps a while back, at a time when I didn't even know what ECDSA was, and my brain almost literally exploded. I'll try to read it again and see if I can get a better handle of how they work.
I use Blue Wallet with my own node and with another LNURLs I use, but only hold lightning balance.

I find Muun as the best wallet in any coin. Is just perfect, and their mechanism to save your private keys is very good. If you want the real LN experience, try blixt or phoenix.

Not for my cell phone but I use Electrum for BTC, I would suggest Electrum to anyone and everyone for on-chain btc, Litecoin, and Dash as Electrum has versions for Dash and LTC also. It's just like running the core wallets without having to download the whole blockchain. Would not recommend Electrum for BTC lightning however as you have to open a channel and run a watchtower if you want to use lightning on Electrum.

Yes for Electrum Bitcoin Wallet. I use it myself for 2of2 multisig setups wirh real people whose private key is unknown to me (and vice versa). It helps newcomers realize they can not do any mistake to lose their coins and I have no powers to steal from them because I also need their consent to do anything with my part of the funds.
No for the second part where you say it is like running the core wallet… It's not. You depend on real nodes (can be even pruned) to keep the network being what you expect it to be.
Stacker News may be actually a distraction in learning to understand Bitcoin. Reading articles instead of original (usually older) sources can be misleading. Watching YouTube videos instead of formulating questions in your head and experimenting with them hands-on may also leave you at least one step behind.
This is not about perfection. Perfect is the enemy of good. Each one of us have their means to come to the point when we feel we understand the topic enough to clearly distinguish true from false.
Wishing you success!
I am a big fan of blockstream green, since I can use it over tor

On my smartphone I only use lightning. I have tested a couple and Breez is my favourite.

If you know what coinbase.com is to Bitcoin, that's what Muun is to Lightning. 😈
Muun is new to me, I will search for it. Have a nice day!
