pull down to refresh

Now that the American election nonsense is behind us, we can get back to basketball. It's another interesting slate of games. I think there's one obvious choice, again.
76ers (5-1) @ Pistons (2-6) Hornets (2-4) @ Wizards (1-5) Nets (3-4) @ Celtics (5-1) Pelicans (4-3) @ Rockets (3-3) Jazz (2-6) @ Grizzlies (1-6) Timberwolves (4-2) @ Spurs (3-4) Clippers (3-3) @ Mavericks (6-1) Lakers (3-4) @ Suns (3-4) Thunder (4-3) @ Kings (2-4)
Other than Michael Jordan's retirement screwing @siggy47 over last week, everyone enters this week fully intact.
My pick for the week is the 76ers.
I will probably regret this but I don't want to take the same team as you so I am on the Anthony Edwards train. Give me the Timberwolves. (Towns can neutralize Wemby right, right?)
reply
Betting against teams that aren't trying to win is a decent strategy.
I heard someone talking about how weird the Spurs rotation is right now. Their backup point guard has all-time great advanced metrics, because their starting point guard has all-time terrible advanced metrics.
reply
We will see how it goes but Edwards has been unbelievable this year.
reply
I feel like I always miss those performances when I watch him. He's like the basketball version of Michigan J. Frog.
reply
Interesting pick. I would also give Timberwolves the advantage too seeing how Edwards is playing lately, but don't count the Spurs out, because you never know what kind of a freak show Wemby might put on. Not obvious for sure, and could turn out to be an exciting game. Good luck!
I don't believe Towns can guard Wemby; he is too fast / agile for Towns.
reply
Agreed. I just didn't want to pick the 76ers like everyone else and recency bias tells me Edwards is unstoppable.
reply
I think it will probably be Wemby's countryman putting the clamps on him. It's a great showdown of the two best French athletes in recorded history.
reply
Yes, Gobert vs Wemby should be fun to watch.
It's a great showdown of the two best French athletes in recorded history.
Tony Parker has entered the chat and beg to differ.
reply
Doesn't sound French to me. I even tried reading it with un accent francais (Tonay Parkair) but it still doesn't sound French. Tony Parker is a psyop.
reply
That's what I was thinking, too, but I didn't say anything. It's definitely an American name.
reply
How about those Raptors last night? Back to .500 and only need to play the Celtics twice and the Bucks in the next 4 games. Easy.
Maybe if Tim Duncan's coattails were available to ride
reply
I think you are forgetting Andre the Giant was French. Haha.
reply
I did forget that. RIP
Still a great showdown between the 2nd and 3rd greatest athletes in French history
reply
Since soccer isn't a real sport, that's fair.
reply
What in the hell is "soccer"?
I wanted to wander off the reservation by picking the Celtics. I heard they have a guy named Byrd(sp?) who's really good, but I will copy the one who lacks discipline and take the 76ers.
reply
I don't think you would be wandering too far the Celtics are the best team in the Eastern Conference. I think the Bird guy plays for the Pacers now though.
reply
That makes sense. I recall seeing a huge mural of him in Indianapolis.
reply
You're thinking of the KKK leader who ran for senate. The basketball player is Barry Bird, I think.

As of this posting the victory pot is over 8000 sats
Any and all sats zapped to me on these posts (including rewards) go right into the victory pot. Remember that SN rewards big zappers.

I was worried for all of us when Embiid went down hard early in the 1st quarter last night.
reply
I think Maxey can take care of business vs the Pistons even if Embiid gets hurt. But the fact is, Embiid is not hurt, so I really like our chances.

Did you make a pick last week?
reply
Dang I didn’t

The Stacker Sports Council has already considered your case and decided you can join in under the following conditions:
  1. Single elimination: you can only miss on one pick
  2. No tie-breaker: in the event you are eliminated at the same time as the last remaining participants, you will be disqualified from the tie-breaker scenarios.
Welcome aboard!
reply
Thank you to the council. Who can I pay sats to and express my gratitude
reply
Just zap them into the rewards pool. We're all delusional enough to think we're going to win.

Don't forget to make your picks @Wumbo, @elnosh, @BTC_Bellzer, and @Chep.
