I listened to Whitney Webb on TFTC last night. She really got me motivated on setting up my own server. I don't want to create a big post. Just wondering what you guys are doing. I'm lazy, so I was thinking Start9. I know there are cheaper DYI alternatives too, which I would consider so long as the software isn't a huge hassle.
reply
If you think of a personal server, I would recommend to keep separated your personal user data, files etc than a bitcoin node. NEVER MIX THEM ! Bitcoin is Bitcoin, data is data.
Run whatever machine you want for a node and a NAS for all the rest of your stuff. On a NAS you could even have your own email /web server hosted.
reply
Yes, I already have my node separate, and I'll keep it that way. I have an older NAS (synology) with photos, music, and some docs that I set up about 8 years ago. It's getting old and slow. I want to host my own email and maybe a few web sites now. I really want an upgrade, I guess.
reply
Yep, a simple upgrade for a better CPU and memory will be good (if is too old). Synology is a great machine with good apps and you can access it wherever you are, securely and privately. Don't complicate things when could be simple.
reply
Yes. Maybe that's what I'll do.

We watched both Andromeda Strain and World on a Wire 1 last night.
Andromeda Strain was super good. What kept me from watching it for so long, I don't know.
World on a Wire 1 clearly inspired The Matrix and was very good in certain ways but bumbled a great story. I'm hoping the second part is better.
We're going to watch House (1997) tonight probably. The graphic art alone totally grabs me for some reason.

In the same theme, I recommend the Counterpart mini series or Dark
Very good ones.

I haven’t watched Counterpart. Thanks!
I enjoyed the first season of Dark. Season two got too surreal for me. I couldn’t get past the first episode.

If you are using BTCpay, it doesn't send any notification somehow whenever you receive payments, and checking manually is silly, so what I do is using Zapier to notify me on Slack 👀 and there are many automatic fun you can do with Zapier too.
I'm actually a bit surprised that not many automated tools are being built on top of Bitcoin atm, or maybe I didn't look hard enough.

I was so happy the day I quit, finally living and breathing on my own.
reply
Started a 21-day challenge in which I aimed to learn something new about Bitcoin or interact with its ecosystem every day. I would also record my progress on Stacker News.
Day 16 - Just spent my supermarket voucher bought from Bitrefill today. But lest I become too happy, I learnt that some Bitcoiners avoid Bitrefill like the plague because it accepts shitcoins. Well, time to subject myself to higher standards and check out The Bitcoin Company.
reply
If Bitrefill does a good job at the thing you want it to do, that's awesome -- you should do a post on it, I've been wondering about how it would work in practical terms.
Hell, try TBC, too, and compare them.
reply
For instance, I was just looking at TBC's disclaimer for their Visa card. Holy shit! It's like the tos for happy fun ball.
This is the kind of thing it would be really good to test, empirically, vs Bitrefill. Seems like the devil is in the details -- I don't want to have to jump through all these hoops and then worry that I might get rugged in the end.

V against a fascist state.
V IS the fascist state, playing with your mind... playing as being on your side, but in fact is just manipulating you.
A clear example: Silk Road. It was created by the 3 letters agency and got Ross to be their patsy... end goal? To hit hard Bitcoin community. Ross was used by them all the time. And that's why they keep him in jail for life, to not reveal the truth.
reply
I can’t speak to Silk Road but V is clearly designed to be ambiguous that it is up to the reader to decide if he is mad or enlightened.
And while palingentic ultranationalism or another previous anarcho-fascist ideal may be the result I don’t believe it is considered in the book.

Having your own products and being able to accept Bitcoin is amazing, it gives you freedom and the drive to keep crafting the products.
reply
That's true. I mostly sell on third-party website that doesn't accept payment in Bitcoin. I would LOVE to get paid out in Bitcoin. Hopefully in the future when Bitcoin becomes more mainstream.
reply
I don't like to deal with any third parties, I like having more control over everything I do.
I would LOVE to get paid out in Bitcoin. Hopefully in the future when Bitcoin becomes more mainstream.
Set up a simple site then start accepting it! you don't need to wait for the others - ₿e the change.
reply
The reason why I sell on third-party website is because they have to infrastructure and the reach. Building a following is not easy and its time consuming. I've tried that method for many years and failed. I don't think I can handle the struggle anymore but thanks for the advice.
reply

what if I told you it only takes half a day to set the site up and being able to accept BTC? 👀
Building a following is not easy and its time consuming.
yes, I've been doing it for 6 years now, slow but I learned a lot from it:) also, one thing I have learned is that having an organic audience gives you many advantages along the way, tough but so worth it.

Guys, please read in detail the history. The history is NOT how is presented in movies.
Remember remember, the 5th of november was actually a plot against freedom and against people, not the hero actions you are looking for....
That mask is a false idea of a "hero"... please stop using it.
I am baffled that bitcoiners embrace this character and mask as it would be something good, fightning for freedom, when in fact is exactly the opposite.
Be aware not to fall into this trap. "The masters" are trying to control the narrative, to create false heroes.
Celebrating 5th of Nov as it would be the day "against the gov", just make me laugh. Is exactly the opposite, is celebrating how a gov secret service, infiltrated into people groups, is plotting exactly against their freedom... (what is actually doing today (NSA/CIA/FBI etc)
Here is explained in details, what really happened. https://wearechange.org/guy-fawkes-gun-powder-plot-false-flags-shaped-history/
reply
Darth is a buzz kill, man.
reply
I always speak the truth. V was one of the first well organized false flags in the human history. From then, they perfection it.
reply
I really never even looked into the whole thing, so I'm an outside observer. I think I was too old. I did watch V for Vendetta a year or so ago, though.
reply
The story is going deeper and deeper. Fascinating I could say. But yes, people are only looking to the surface and follow the movies. Is also that this history was many times swiped under the rug, to be forgotten and even they tried to change it.
reply
I would recommend anyone looks into the plot. ‘Guy Fawkes Night’ actually celebrates the victory of then state Protestantism against his proposed Catholic revolution. It has been traditionally considered a celebration of thanksgiving. Whilst I think false flag isn’t perhaps the right term I do believe it’s an example of social amnesia.
I still stand by him being the only honest man to enter a parliament which, only 50 years later, was torn apart by Oliver Cromwell.
reply
That night was the precursor of what happened in 1666, nigh of London fire... Study more the history of those times, about Cestui Que Vie Act 1666 that literally created suddenly the slavery of all people, converting them in dead corporations. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/true_and_complete_break_down_of
