High time preference symptom?
Prioritizing the short term cash grab over building and reinforcing a brand image
I also think it is horrible they are putting ads on jerseys now. Ads on the playing surface, ads all over the stadium and now ads on the jerseys. Now I have also noticed here in Canada when you watch basketball, hockey or baseball they superimpose relevant Canadian sponsors over the ads in US ads. So if the 76ers have a dunkin donuts ad on the court tonight, the Sportsnet broadcast will put one of their advertisers over top of it on the main camera feed but then when they switch angles or show replays you see the actual ad. It is very distracting.

I haven't been sure how many ads are physically in the arena vs superimposed on a surface for tv.
I think they're playing with fire, in terms of how much longer people will keep paying to watch. Most other tv is declining and NBA might be next.

I don't find it that irritating in baseball as it is primarily done on the static camera angle from CF behind the pitcher. It is somewhat annoying in basketball but is usually just a couple logos on the court. The absolute worst is hockey, they try to superimpose all new ads around the entire boards but because of the speed of the game and the movement of the camera they are often blurry or not centered perfectly or not blended correctly and you are getting some digital ads and some of the physical ones on the actual boards. It really makes it almost unwatchable.
