Options:
  • just point your wallet app to a well known/trusted node. It is nothing wrong with using an "uncle Jim" node. Many out there.
  • Use your wallet app with a neutrino node and check only the headers. Neutrino is not revealing any private info, is just delivering blocks info.
  • use trustedcoin light version of sync, by fiatjaf https://github.com/nbd-wtf/trustedcoin
these are great options, thanks

Check this out, an "uncle Jim" by hardcore bitcoiners, services offered by Bitcoin Barcelona Group: https://bitcoinbarcelona.xyz/Servicios-Bitcoin-Barcelona-b275aaed964149a3ae2c9b1d16d6b78f
question for @pillar - is possible that the Bitcoin node offered to connect to is also running neutrino?
For all those newbies that can't run their own node or users like you in trouble, you can very well use these kind of servers to connect to.

I don't think the Core is open for external connection, only the Electrum server.

Of course, of course, I fully agree it's possible. I'm just saying I don't think it is properly set up right now.
