pull down to refresh

Ideally I would like to make the prune smaller (increase the space) and re-fetch older blocks. As far as I know this is not possible. Or is it?

I have limited disk space so I run a pruned node. Turns out that some of my UTXOs now are before the cutoff date and can't see them anymore.

I definitely don't want to re-download the whole chain.

Options:

  • just point your wallet app to a well known/trusted node. It is nothing wrong with using an "uncle Jim" node. Many out there.
  • Use your wallet app with a neutrino node and check only the headers. Neutrino is not revealing any private info, is just delivering blocks info.
  • use trustedcoin light version of sync, by fiatjaf https://github.com/nbd-wtf/trustedcoin

these are great options, thanks

Check this out, an "uncle Jim" by hardcore bitcoiners, services offered by Bitcoin Barcelona Group: https://bitcoinbarcelona.xyz/Servicios-Bitcoin-Barcelona-b275aaed964149a3ae2c9b1d16d6b78f

question for @pillar - is possible that the Bitcoin node offered to connect to is also running neutrino?

For all those newbies that can't run their own node or users like you in trouble, you can very well use these kind of servers to connect to.

Try also BTCD https://github.com/btcsuite/btcd

I don't think the Core is open for external connection, only the Electrum server.

You can hit the guys at bitcoinbarcelona.xyz for more info.

Of course, of course, I fully agree it's possible. I'm just saying I don't think it is properly set up right now.

This is much needed

I think is coming faster then we thought.

I definitely don't want to re-download the whole chain.

Currently you will need to do that if you change pruning settings to "un-prune".

Hoping that changes soon! These are the tiny UX things that are a pain in the ass and definitely do not help with adoption. Imagine asking this to a normie.

Bandwidth, processing, it takes an excessive amount of time. The timechain never synced for me in less than 5 days, sometimes I have it crashing and need to be checking to restart. A pita. I have to run it in my computer (no, I don't have an umbrel)

Haha definitely!

I never understood why we can't download the chain from a torrent and then somehow cryptographically verify it's the main chain
