Howdy there, partner! Welcome on into the Stacker Saloon.

Teach a man to duck, and he'll never walk into a bar.

What about a sub that pulls bitcoin/nostr/tech/job events from nostr?
We're definitely hoping to figure out ways to read from nostr eventually. Siloing them into a sub is a neat approach!

Snow obstructs my brushwood door with me inside alone. One by one, coral branches break in winter woods. In the light of dawn, mountain green is gone. If the plums have finished blooming, I, for one, can't tell.

I've started to sow lettuces in my garden. I prefer sowing them with onions. In order to keep bugs away.
What does sowing lettuce mean? Some pictures of your garden would be lovely 😉

A must watch: Man Or Person? | The Legal Fiction EXPLAINED
When you think you need to learn everything from scratch, but actually it does not have to be this way. As there is nothing new under the sun, many people in the past have already explored different things to a certain level, all we need is to dig and trace back to those knowledge, continuing the work that we find meaningful.
What if the whole human experience is a continuing exploration?
For example, some stackers know that I'm making my own clothes atm, and I just discovered what fabric the sultans used to wear, they must have their reasons, so I am gonna go check it out and figure out the whys.

and we meet others to explore different things along the journey, some might be a guiding force, some might cause violence or sadness.
Meeting different people then lead to different experiences, but I think our own will have some influence on the direction.
Currently at a Cashu Hackday. There was a presentation by @calle at btc++ yesterday and it blew my mind how simple it is - at least from this high level perspective. So far, I didn't take the time to look into it even though I heard about the project several times already. With the presentation, I got the idea in less than a minute.
I also liked the introduction where existing custodial services like SN were mentioned (thanks for the shout-out even though it was as an example for a custodial service, haha) and that Cashu only solves the privacy issue with custodial services. Kinda like do one thing but do it well.
So if we use custodial services, we can at least keep our privacy :)
Now looking into how much work integrating Cashu with SN would be. It's not top priority, but when we make it easier for stackers to use their wallet to buy stuff (as @DarthCoin has been asking for a while), I think privacy and thus Cashu gets more important. We don't want to see what you're buying :)
Maybe we could even use it for internal transactions so even we can't tell who zapped who? But that would mess with our ranking system and personal feeds too much, I guess.
Oh, and thanks to @niftynei and co. for organizing bitcoin++!
I especially liked the cozy atmosphere with not too many people. Before I arrived at the venue, I thought it would be a big conference with many stages and I was worried I might get lost in the crowd, lol. But that turned out to totally not be the case :)
I think that made it a lot easier to get to know the interesting people I met (since I struggle with approaching people) and I am looking forward to go to more conferences now :)
Sorry for the awkward handshake btw, haha

I think the emergence of a whole gradient of custodial offerings is the surest sign that things are working. If there are offerings the span levels of trust and friction we have a chance of getting new people into the space. Absent that, there's no chance. So excited to see what this amounts to in general, and wrt SN.
Nice! A ThinkPad! That's a legit setup right there! I wonder if libreboot or coreboot firmware bios is needed for that.
I really like ThinkPads :)
I have a X220 which came with coreboot (I think it's Skulls).
I actually didn't know about coreboot before and I argued with the seller on eBay that I don't want to pay extra for coreboot, lol
Since I didn't find another X220, I then bought it after a few days anyway.
But I don't understand your question:
Afaik, coreboot is about OSS so you don't need it but it's good because it's OSS:
Or wdym with "if it is needed"?
You mean if these Thinkpads have Intel ME? I think coreboot also removes that.
Yes, I ment if it allows you to do upgrades if this is a newer Thinkpad. I think that was the reason why the older laptops like the t400 was soo popular besides the cool advertisements about its features on tv. Its great to know it already has coreboot. Plus the OSS makes it awesome.
No, my X220 has coreboot. This is my T420s. I actually made sure you can see the Thinkpad model in the picture, lol (Assuming you thought the picture shows the X220.)
could be interesting indeed

F1 weekend, waiting for the race.
Hell yeah! Quite an anticlimactic way for the championship to end yesterday. Did you catch the sprint race where Verstappen was crowned 3 time champion?
Sure, always watch at my pace, just don't read any news and then I can watch one after another (classi, sprint, race). If you forget about Verstappen who is in another level, the rest of the cars/pilots are really close one of another.
Hah yes, he's been unstoppable for the last 2 seasons. I enjoy the racing regardless of who is in first place. The engineering challenges are fascinating to me
Recommendation to watch this Sunday: The Bloody History of Communism

I noticed I learn things with my eyes and verify them with my hands. I don't need and don't want to have much talking in between, and that's quite liberating, as I'm no longer scary of the language barrier on tipping my toe on anything.
But ofc speaking the local languages could help, but what actually matters more is the heart and determination to learn.

Started a 21-day challenge in which I aimed to learn something new about Bitcoin or interact with its ecosystem every day. I would also record my progress on Stacker News.
Day 10 - Downloaded the app called Simple Bitcoin a while ago. Finally finished the Beginner’s Course and received a certificate for my efforts. Was surprised to come across mention of Stacker News - something about how it leverages the Lightning Network as a form of micropayment.
Nice work, way to keep at it. Are you going to make a wrap up / review post when all is said and done?
I was just intending to compile all my 21 adventures - but having a review post in which I reflect on my takeaways would provide a good closure. Thanks for the idea
I would prefer to earn sats in stead of a certificate. But, none the less, you're making wonderful progress on the challenge.
I do earn some sats. But not a lot. About 10-20 sats depending on whether the spin wheel wants to be nice to me
Day 176 of snailposting everyday 'til BTC hits $100k.

👍

Someone has probably asked this before, but: do you have plans in mind for when we cross $100k? What's the reward for all this diligence?
Also you have reminded me to start reading Lyn's latest book.
We need you!
Start counting down to $1M I suppose...!
I have no plans on selling at a particular target, and if BTC shot up to $100k tomorrow my life wouldn't materially change. I'm happy as is.
But price is important no matter what the puritans say, and it's a good proxy for measuring wider adoption. So I follow the markets with some degree of interest even if I don't participate in trading (I merely DCA).
Plus it's a funny shitpost that motivates me to participate in the forums daily so I can keep my cowboy hat.
I like the ritual of it, if nothing else. Like going to a small-town diner and seeing the regulars at the counter, having their coffee :)

Nice quick story about a cheese maker that accept Bitcoin https://primal.net/e/note1dh7xnr687tzu7p0lktsarqpc2qgvku8fskqd9awg9ga249w476fqkxfpcc
So you're telling me I can buy my favorite treat with Bitcoin? Now that's what i call progress.
Sir, did you read my guides? Many places to buy cheese with sats https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/bitcoin-lightning-irl-examples
and the list can go on and on...
I forgot to mention, I can also use my Bitcoin to buy cheese including any grocery items at one of South Africa's leading retailers.

Do you find yourself thinking in haikus? I imagine that happens if you write enough of them.
Not yet…. perhaps in final moments of enlightenment you become a haiku and float away on the breeze…

I'm all for getting stuck in a whirlpool of melting cheese. Thank you @DarthCoin, now I have cheese on the brain 🤣
