For me it's very different between football and basketball.
I'm usually watching football with my dad, so there I prefer less commentary, because we're usually talking about the game in real time. As long as they cover what happened on plays where it wasn't super clear, I don't want anything more than occasionally pointing out something neat that fans at home might have missed.
Basketball games are pretty tedious in the middle, so a crew that has good banter or launch into epic rants (a la Jeff Van Gundy) is what I enjoy. Also, I'm usually watching basketball in the morning by myself.
Interesting that you watch basketball in the morning. Oh and awesome you still watch football with your dad. I try to catch one baseball game a week with my dad. Usually a saturday or sunday we will go over to my parents place, watch the game and then bbq. Fun times.

I have a 3 year old, so there's no chance I'm staying up late enough to watch an NBA game. This also lets me get enormous value out of league pass, since I can watch almost any game the next day and get every possession in about 30 minutes per game.

My 4 year old is a night owl. She usually goes to bed around 10pm but doesn't sleep until 11pm. We are all night owls in this family. Even when I was running my business and had to be up early I used to stay up at least until 1am and then I would just take a nap in the afternoon for half an hour before I had to go back out for the evening.
Because of this I have always loved west coast games that start at 10pm on the east coast. Better for me. Kids are in bed, my wife is usually watching something on her tablet that I have no interest in or shopping on amazon. So I can hang out with the dog in the living room and watch a game without distraction. Maybe mine some sats playing bitcoin solitaire during commercials.

4 for one more day I should say. Her birthday is tomorrow. I might need to bring the 4yr (now) 5yr old stacker back to SN.
Had her post a couple times on here. People seemed skeptical, thought I was running a child exploitation grift for sats or something. Haha.

I grew up so far west that the early NBA games used to start before I even got home from school.
What I miss most is the all-day football Sunday. The early games started first thing in the morning and the night games ended in the late evening.

Football Sunday was the best as a kid. No obligations. I used to get up have breakfast. Watch the pregame show for the 1pm est games then watch whatever game was on. Usually the Bills being the closest team. A couple of my friends on my street would do the same and we would go out and throw the football around after the 1pm game for half hour or so and then return to our homes to watch the rest of the 4pm game (usually miss the first quarter or so). I usually liked this game better because it was west coast so 49ers were featured a lot. Then I would have dinner, watch the pregame for the SNF game and the game and then go to bed. I did this for years on football sundays until I was old enough to have a social life and go hang out with friends.
