imho, if a custodial wallet provider is not working toward this end, they are acting in bad faith for their users and the greater bitcoin movement.

I don't think you're achieving what you are trying to achieve if you use blanket statements like that

Even if you're right (I am neither saying you are nor you are not), people can be irrational and be against you just because they don't like you

Keep that in mind

reply

People will always be irrational, that won't stop me from expressing my opinion. I do understand your message but would rather piss off a few to inform even one person that new trade offs exist when it comes to other people holding your bitcoin. If Users understand that a privacy preserving solution exists, they can better make decisions around those trade offs. Then the market can decide which custodial solutions "the best".

This. When Stacker News ecash @k00b? :)

reply

Stacker news is not a fucking wallet. Its just shitpost sats. Its meant to be thought much more as an internal balance like you would have with twitch bits or any other place where you can deposit money and use it internally as opposed to a payment app.

ecash does not make sense for SN

reply

n2n is right.

All spending within SN is tied to an account so that we can weight voting appropriately.

Using your account balance like it's wallet of satoshi is not really what's intended.

reply

SN is still a custodian of sats with a concentration of operational burden.

While SN doesn't really need the privacy of eCash (you can do accounts in a Fedimint too, btw), the distributed keys of a Fedimint might be more advantageous than current setup (of which I am completely ignorant). You distribute load between the guardian servers and distribute risk by having keys disagregated. This could also allow for stackers to run LN gateways for SN, reducing operational requirements and creating redundancy.

Privacy is cool, but reliability, redundancy, and security improvements are also very cool. Would be happy to shill... errr... chat more about Fedimint any time.

reply

Yeah, agree it is more relevant for an exchange. Or Wallet of Satoshi.

Hosted channels were even before Calle started receiving grants.

Tell me more. I am a LN novice. Or maybe link to good reading?

Quite elaborate explanation is here. The original developer shut down his website

Also fiat channels are based on this idea.

Also a post about general concepts, less specific about BLW or SBW wallets which implemented hosted channels since 2019.
