Lucky number 13. Today's topic was an idea suggested by @Turdinthepunchbowl. Sats are being forwarded to Turd so make it rain.
With all the talk of Glory days recently, and since we covered sports movies last week, Turd suggested we do best sports related songs.
So shill me your best sports related song or to broaden the spectrum best sports reference in a song.
Sats for all. Bonus sats for everybody if @siggy picks the song I think he might pick being a big hockey guy and honorary Canadian.
Cheers, GR
The Boxer - Simon & Garfunkel.
Great tune.
Fifty Mission Cap - The Tragically Hip. It's about the story of Bill Barilko who scored the game winning goal in OT to win the Stanley Cup. That off-season he disappeared on a fishing trip, the Leafs then went 11 years (which was crazy as they had been dominant) without winning the cup. The year they won again was the year his body was discovered. The leafs still play the song at home games. Also RIP Gordon Downie :(
Edit: thanks grayruby for the forwarded zaps, but also for leading many of the discussions/threads!
I know it well. I do reside in the communist republic of Canada after all. I always appreciated the Canadian ethos that ran as a theme through Hip songs. I have a ton of respect for how Downie handled his last couple years.
I absolutely love the Hip, never enough love outside Canada. He went out with grace, lots of talk for his last performance of Ahead by a Century, rightfully so, but I get absolutely crushed by the performance of Grace Too a few days before that. There is a video of it on YouTube where he just wears it on his face, one of the most powerful yet saddest thing I've ever watched. I think most of us can only hope to have a fraction of the strength and bravery Downie had.
I'll start, and give turd 100 sats just for his name
Joe DiMaggio reference in Mrs. Robinson
Nice I thought you were going to go the Hockey song route.
That one stuck in my head since I was a kid. I honestly can't think of a hockey one. Does Tim Horton's have a theme song?
Not that I can think of. Might have been one many years ago.
I could have picked this, but I hate Tiger Williams:
view on youtu.beThere is only one good song about sports:

For kickers I always humm the madden 93 (I think) on SNES https://youtu.be/6kxv3YUicQ8
You went in an unexpected direction here. Nice.
Nanowar of Steel - Pasadena 1994 (ft Joakim Brodén)
How about "Rhe Twist"by Chubby Checker, the movie The Mighty Ducks.
Billy Joel - we didn't start the fire. Fall out boy - we didn't start the fire.
NB FoB wrote their new version with Joel so no it's not a rip off it's just fun.
Steel Panther - Just Like Tiger Woods.
