I went to buy cat food today and it was out of stock everywhere online. The manufacturers website said they were facing supply shortages.

not sure about how to do this for catfood, but the shortage prompted me to learn how to make at-home dog food. fairly easy actually:

boil chicken with gizzard, heart, liver
boil brown rice + throw in a few veggies (carrots, spinach, etc)
combine and food process to rough meal texture
separate into mini baggies and freeze

i'm sure this is healthier than some sort of preservative filled industrial pet food with infinite shelf life.....

You must love your dog a lot. I'm unfortunately too lazy - I even have one of those automatic pet feeders. The best I do by my cat is find the best dry kibble I can which is grain-free, starch-free, and high in animal protein ... Plus my cat is indoor-outdoor so she occasionally catches fresh food.
