Mash just released a new tool that lets anyone embed custom Lightning-powered polls on their own website.
I’ve set one up on Stack Sats here if you want to try it out: https://www.stacksats.how/vote
This is pretty cool for a number of reasons:
  • creators get a new tool to engage their audience, opening the door to more interactive experiences
  • creators get to keep the sats spent on their polls, earning extra income too
  • polls that require payment are more resistant to bot manipulation
We need to create demand for this. But how? there is no point in all of this tech if there is no demand to use it!

true, i like the incentive alignment for creators to share these polls… all the sats go directly to them, that should help demand

Interesting, but let me get this straight.
The creator wants an opinion from followers/visitors. Followers give it for free and then pay the creator for graciously allowing them to share their opinion?
Isn't this a bit backward?

“opinion” might not be the best word here.
these polls give fans the ability to influence the direction of a creator’s work too.
imagine your favorite podcaster asks you (and all the other listeners) to suggest questions to ask a guest, and the question with the most sats wins.
fans get a new way to support creators, and it’s a much more exciting experience for fans than a flat monthly subscription with an automated “payment received” email.

Ok, this makes much more sense. :) - I guess the word "poll" is a bit misleading.

polls are one use case, but it’s a pretty flexible widget they’ve built.
you can even do sats races so that the winning item is chosen when a certain funding goal is reached.
