From data centers in the Gulf area to water desalination plants, the worst-case scenario is now unfolding in the Middle East conflict, with no boundaries regarding civilian infrastructure.
We warned earlier last week, after correctly predicting that data centers would be targeted, that water desalination plants would be next (see the previous update).
Al Jazeera reports that after Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi claimed the US targeted a water desalination plant in Iran, an IRGC kamikaze drone then targeted a desalination plant in Bahrain.
Desalination plants are critical infrastructure for many Gulf states because almost all of the region's freshwater comes from either desalinating seawater or pumping from deep aquifers. Dependence on these plants is especially high: 90% in Kuwait, 86% in Oman, 70% in Saudi Arabia, and 42% in the UAE comes from desalination.

This is shaping up to be a brutal war. Thank you neocons and the uniparty for serving the department of war over we the people.

Regime change wars, by definition, are existential threats to the sitting regime. Why would anyone expect them to have any boundaries?

reply

Maybe they were expecting a quick surrender like Russia was expecting with Ukraine

reply

That, or they actually intend the outcomes that they keep getting.

reply

Plus war did have rules as ironic as it sounds. Striking this water plant might be considered a war crime under the Geneva convention?

reply

I know, but amongst those rules were things like not assassinating enemy rulers. Regime change, as the stated purpose of a conflict, changes the incentives. Would you rather deal with war crime allegations or be dead?

reply

US credibility is dead.
Trump is a war criminal.

The phrase, "the purpose of a system is what it produces" is more and more true to me over time.

reply

I'm torn on this, because I don't believe people are smart enough to design complex social systems like this.

On the other hand, once you see the results, which were not what was expected, there can definitely be groups who benefited from the outcome and want more of it.

US wealth and power is highly dependent upon resource hegemony and the petrodollar backed by the US military.
USA is no longer competitive as a manufacturer and producer in most sectors- China has won the trade war.
Now a desperate USA, losing global economic dominance is using its military power to try and retain dominance.

USA cannot swiftly replace the armaments it is using up in the middle east and Ukraine because it does not have the supply of rare earths and other critical inputs.
US empire is facing an existential threat from China and is fighting for its survival.

Losing in Iran would be the turning point where US hegemony collapses and Chinese dominance becomes the new reality.
Trump and Nato are already losing in Ukraine.
This is WW3.

It is a war of attrition and China has the upper hand.
Expect Taiwan handover timetable to be agreed at the Trump Xi meeting next month.
USA on its knees.

This is an idiotic war, but I must say, I fully agree with Mises institute on how it exposes the "farce of American representative democracy." The public's disapproval and disinterest simply has no influence whatsoever on the course of events. Government today is a thing that happens to Americans, rather than something Americans do.

It’s always been this way those with power money and influence always dominate politics. Since the beginning of time.

America’s Military Is Focused on Iran. Its Biggest Challenge Is China.

Trump’s war in the Middle East is the latest campaign that has drained missile stockpiles and stretched American forces thin.

One of the biggest things China has going for it is NOT using open military action all over the place. The biggest problem with the US Government is that it is under the control of the MIC and the banks.

reply

Agree.
China primarily wants to trade and do business, as that is where they have advantage.
But USA is cutting off their oil supplies and China may be left with no choice but to defend their supply lines and trading partners.
The huge Chinese military build up recognises that they know USA will seek to use force to retain hegemony.
