Dang, I feel like maybe I have to give this clawy dude a try

I'm having fun until I burn through my Gemini trial credits. After that, who knows. I've heard of people spending quite a bit of money setting these things up, and I can't see how I'd be able to justify that. It's mostly a fun thing, that has had some minor productivity advantages so far.

You're literally sharing your data with Google. Do you think that that's a reliable partner to give things to and that that will not completely come back to haunt you in the future?

reply

This is a fair point. ... I don’t know, it is probably not, and it very well might. I was lured by the siren song.

I've accepted that I'll give google some of my data and consider that the cost of learning.

If it is siloed on a separate machine and doesn't have elevated privileges, then I don't believe it has anything I dont give to it. But I could be wrong.

anything I dont give to it

You were giving it transactional information though? (receipts)

Let's hope you'll never be living in a totalitarian police state. oh wait... haha

Nothing off the books though. It's all being reported to the thugs anyway.

Yes, not trying these things for fear that one day i'll wake up and find out I'm living under a nefarious technocracy seems a little bit .... well, on the nose?

Not trying facebook would have saved a lot of entries in Palantir's datalakes, though. Currently it works against you if you're a Palestinian in Gaza or a Somali in MN... but not being targeted yet doesn't mean there is no future case against you.

You are right.

Another cool one is the google calendar skill. E.g. you could send him your course syllabus and he can parse and load important dates into a google calendar.
