Muscle makes you look athletic.
Tendons are what let you move athletic.
I’m nearly 37 years old
and I’m faster than I was in high school.
Not because I train harder.
Because I train smarter
and live a lifestyle that supports it.
Speed.
Jumping.
Sprint mechanics.
All of it runs through the Achilles.
Strong muscles + weak tendons
is why people feel powerful in the gym
but fragile when they move fast.
This is single-leg Achilles isometric work.
You can do this exactly how I show it:
Stand on one leg holding a heavy kettlebell
Or use one leg under a squat rack
Or use both legs on the calf raise machine
The setup matters less than the hold.
Hold the position for ~45 seconds
until it gets uncomfortable.
That discomfort is the point.
Tendons adapt to high force held over time,
not fast reps and not light burn.
If you stop early, you miss the stimulus.
Set a timer or count it out loud.
Don’t cheat yourself.
Programming:
45 seconds per side
2–3 rounds
1–3x per week
Use the higher end if:
Your Achilles is sore from increased mileage
You’re sprinting more
You skipped proper warm-ups
This builds tendon stiffness.
Improves force transfer.
Reduces breakdown.

This is cool. I’ve never seen workouts specifically designed for tendon strength.
Maybe the Niners should watch
It is sort of counterintuitive but feel free to share the video with anyone who could benefit. I learn a lot from doctors of physical therapy and sports physiologists the apply what I learn in my training and build programs around it.
They’ll never give up their glamour muscles
Probably not, but tendon strength could be useful haha
