Panic city this morning. I almost didn't have a clean thermos for my three cup-coffee stash for work!
We got a cat, and two weeks in it seems to be a really great thing for our family. She gives our kid something to hang out with in the morning when we're slow to get out of bed, she hangs out with us on the couch in the evening when we're watching The Pitt, and she's just generally a pleasure to be around through the day and a constant source of amusement and conversation. Maybe that's just the novelty of having a pet, but on a personal level she is really good for my stress hormones too – something I had not considered at all. Not sure what we'll do when we need to go on vacation, but so far so good...

I'm starting to wonder about the accuracy of BTC Map. I have been making phone calls to merchants who supposedly accept bitcoin in planning my road trip. The response I usually get is "huh?", or " bitwhat"?

Oh yeah. I have been, both positive and negative. I don't know what effect that has on the listing, though. Some should be removed.
The last place I visited from BTC Map was the same situation. It turned out they had a bitcoin atm in the past but got rid of it.
I’d already thought about how easy it is to add fake spots on BTCmap. Turns out they’re real fakes!. Good on you for calling to double-check.

I think some of old merchants were imported from the previous btcmap, using OSM. Many obsolete locations.
The users review is very important, so btcmap devs could remove them.
I have been calling up a lot of these places. Most of them who do accept bitcoin don't seem to know much about it. These merchants have just turned on the Square bitcoin service on their terminal. Not great, but it seems to be a good starting point for a conversation. It took a while, but I found one really promising bar/restaurant in Charlotte, NC. I may make a post to see if stackers have been there. I think they hold local meetups. I should have some more information in a few hours.

Are many fake maps. One is from the BCHers, that imported the old one from OSM and converted into BCH. A lot of confusion, typical BCH.
