After switching over to having a Tor client set up as my system-wide socks proxy, while on a campaign to wean myself off the use of centralised services, I have observed a general trend in accessibility which helps to reinforce this effort.
There is a lot of websites that straight up block you and give you a "permission denied" page. Many other sites that use Cloudflare the cloudflare check page pops up for sometimes as long as 10 seconds.
It seems to me that the more hostile a service is to accessing it via Tor, the less likely it is to respect your privacy.
So if you are trying to cut down on your use of centralised services, installing Tor as a system wide Socks proxy is a good strategy to helping you recognise the ones that should be prioritised for shunning.
Installing Tor system wide would certainly enhance privacy. The downside is that Tor is slow and unreliable. For me it always comes down to a trade off between privacy and security versus convenience. What I wind up doing is running a VPN and rarely using Tor

Yeah, I'm being super zealous about this stuff though. Most sites that are worth using also are 9 times out of 10 only a little slower over Tor, whereas ones that are probably not worth using are either blocking me or slowing me down a lot. I just close the tab and don't go back.
The goal is to minimise the amount of things that distract me from my epic mission coding Indra, privacy is only a secondary purpose. Github isn't hard to use over Tor, for example.

BTW your project sounds great. I'm looking forward to watching your progress.

I think I should stay off here too, I'm a shocker for blather.

Nice explainer. We also don't like centralised services. https://federated.computer.
