There are times, after spending a lot of hours on a project, where you feel like you have made something good. But then you come to the point where you have to put it out there and there is always this question: what if it isn't?
Worse than people not liking it, is that it might mean your own judgment is off. The thing you thought so right could turn out to be meh to most of the world and in doing so it becomes a chink in your armor.
The time and effort expended is small potatoes compared to this risk. It get's me every time I work on a longer piece.

Always good to sleep on it or better yet walk away for a week and come back to it to get fresh eyes on it. Be surprised how many mistakes you will find. Always trust that intuition when creating it’s there for a reason.

You need to trust your instincts. Fear is the mind killer

I mostly do, and often it produces weird things.

"The Stoic philosopher is the man who has liberated himself from fear. He’s not afraid of death, he’s not afraid of pain, he’s not afraid of other people’s dismissal as a fool. The only thing he cares about is that he should meet his moral obligations.” ― Michael Sugrue

If I were to boost a post that fowarfed sats to another user, would they get the same amount of sats as if a random stacker zapped the post?

Anyone know what happens to the posts in a territory that isn't renewed by its owner? Where do they go?

They are in stacker limbo for eternity. I have no clue. I just wanted to say that.

If I remember my Catholic school training, you can escape purgatory, so I guess you're right.

The territory becomes archived. The posts are still visible and searchable, but people can no longer post in the territory.
reply
0 sats \ 1 reply \ @kepford 12h
So the posts can't be found without search or knowing the URL? IE they don't go to some orphan territory?
reply
The territory still exists, it's just archived. You can actually still access archived territories by entering it directly into the URL, i.e. https://stacker.news/~news

solution is simple: stop being so white/pale (and identifying as such on paper), get off the couch, go out into the winter sun, barefoot, enjoy cold thermogenesis, become photoelectrically and electromagnetically efficient;

I love the picture of him passed out next to the toilet. Most of us can relate.
reply
Sincerely, only twice in my entire life I was like puking in a toilet after I was so drunk. And that was in my early young years.
I learned the lesson and never get so drunk. The art of drinking is to know your limits and know how to drink so you will not end up in ridiculous situations.
Now... I can drink a lot and nobody even will notice. Most of my drinking buddies are under the table way before they even notice a slight change in my tone...
Fun fact: how I get my wife - by drinking with his father, until he said (when he was under the table) "enough for me, you won"... you are a worthy son-in-law.
reply

Great story!
At my bachelor party one of my friends passed out head first at the bottom of the host's staircase. Everyone just walked over him. When the host's kids woke up the next morning, they wanted to know who the smelly man was blocking the staircase.
reply
Back in those times, in that country, it was a mandatory custom to do that, asking the father for his girl hand. You had to prove a real PoW in drinking and still be sober. That shows a lot of strength and control. Is not easy as it may look...
Nowadays... not sure if is still in place.
btw... we never get married, with license and shit... was just a simple agreement. But remained a good friend of the father...
reply
21 sats \ 7 replies \ @siggy47 19h
I would have never gotten married under those rules. My father in law was one of the best drinkers I have ever known. I am considered a complete amateur in that family.
reply
Those rules were very clear back in my time... If you want to get married, you must do PoW.
Today, Darth is like...
If my daughter will come with a boyfriend into my house, first thing I will put him to the test... no doubt.

A friend recently looked up his pension and was told that the money in the account hasn't moved for many years. We are going to confiscate it.
I can't imagine when more people wake up to this, the money they think they have in the banks...
reply
0 sats \ 1 reply \ @AG 20h
if you consider inflation, it has moved negatively. It would not be easy to retrieve the money from the funds it has been invested in, especially if managed by the government instead of a private agency. It will much depend on which country your friend has the pension locked in with.
Keep us posted

Weird. An account just for the pension? I’m not really getting it. In what country did that happen?
