Graphene looks interesting, but it's still Android, and you need one of their shitty phones. If you want to get rid of that thingy, you could have a looks at PostmarketOS, a real Linux distribution for phones and other mobile devices, even older ones, like the ones in my beloved Samsung Galaxy Y (codename totoro) collection.
I love the idea of linux phones, but the reality is that Android is miles ahead in terms of security
If I had one of the necessary phones lying around (https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Devices) I'd definitely give PostmarketOS a crack
It's not really relevant in this case though, for a novice user who just wants to download a bitcoin wallet app

Android ahead in terms of security? ROTFL It comes already factory compromised.

depends which android you're talking about
I'm only considering Graphene here, wouldn't use any other flavour
I'm rooting for linux, I really like the idea of being able to plug in a keyboard and use it as an emergency laptop. I ordered a pinephone but in the end they wouldn't ship it as I didn't have a mobile number for the shipping company.
Stupid reason but this seems to be the world we live in. Give up your personal details for a privacy phone, lol

I get (either bought or for free) all my hardware, including my phones, second hand, and use PosmarketOS or Graphene, and I much preferred the former than the latter, of course.
