Anyone using Luna Node for cloud hosting?

https://www.lunanode.com/

reply

They got a light KYC, as in don't accept virtual numbers, from what I remember from two years ago.

reply
0 sats \ 6 replies \ @OT 6 Nov

I tried a few other and they wanted a lot more info. Also didn't accept LN

reply

May I know are you are looking for?

I ended up using voltage to host a Bitcoin node in my case, but then I also stopped using it after one year because I found a better solution.

reply
0 sats \ 4 replies \ @OT 6 Nov

I'm just looking at different options for hosting a BTCpay server. With Voltage you need to do everything anyway so it may as well be on a cheaper VPS.

reply

Honestly, if it's a small business or just starting, I wouldn't bother hosting it.

That's something I've learned after wasting 12 months of payment, because there aren't many people going to pay you in sats. 😂

I agree! think big, start small.

Any of the isntances that I listed here #1272207 would cover all basic needs, some also offer extra plugins ands that's what mmake the difference for some merchants. @OT ideally, if you setup the bitcoin wallet and add a lighting node, even via NWC, so ideally you could add rizful, alby or any other provider that provides a nwc string.

reply
0 sats \ 0 replies \ @OT 6 Nov

Thanks, yeah the test one I set up was with NWC and Rizful. I just have an issue with LNURL which he wants available as a payment option. This has been the only real issue as it links to the local node and looks ridiculous with a long TOR string in front.

It for someone that has BIG ambitions. If it were a small shop I would just add it to my node.

Which language is the only official language of a country, and is spoken exclusively in that country (i.e., not natively anywhere else)?

reply

Catalan?

reply
reply

Hebrew?

reply
reply

I wouldn't have thought that's distinct to just one place.

Japan comes to mind first

reply

Japan's a solid choice, but I know there are big, well-known Japanese communities in the US and Brazil that speak the language. My bad, I forgot to mention I was only asking about European countries. Bet @denlillaapan knows!

reply

I meant basically every single one?

It's the default setting... definitionally in "nation-state" too (by Mises' definition that nation = language community)

reply

When you say natively spoken in other places, you're including exclave communities then?

I was thinking in terms of not being the primary language anywhere else, or something like that.

Finland is my next guess, but I imagine there are Finnish communities in other countries too.

reply

In Europe, almost every country has more than one official language, and in border areas, people in almost all of them speak the neighbor's language. But there is one where this doesn't happen. It's not Finland, because Swedish is also an official language there.

reply

Off the top of my head,

  • Iceland
  • Norway
  • Baltics
  • Czech
  • Most of the Balkans
  • Greece
  • Faroese
  • Romania

But perhaps you meant something different with your question...?

reply

Iceland

Iceland’s the only European country that’s got just one official language, and it’s only spoken there.

reply

Ok...and what about the others I mentioned?
Nobody speaks Estonian or Norwegian outside of those places either

Cool. I guessed Finland because I know Finnish is fairly different from other European languages.

Would you be open to selling high resolution files of these images for self printing?

reply

Oh sure. Most of the files I have aren't super high res (I use scans of the original images, but I usually the best I can get is 2000x3000 pixels). They blow up to 11" x17" quite nicely. Even the full movie poster ones look good if you use a nice printer and good paper.

reply

Cool, I might do some research from local print shops and see what I need and ping you again.

reply

For sure! I can adjust aspect ratios for you if needed.

reply

I'd be interested in these ones for 18" x 24" printing:

How much would you charge for the files?

reply

how does 2k sats each sound?

Most of these come from images that have an aspect ratio that is more like .65 (18x24 is .75). Here is an example of what the v for vendetta one will look like if I change the ratio to .75

other options are printing with a margin (wider on the sides, narrow on top and bottom). You could cut these margins off later, if you like.

reply

Sure, in fact I'm happy to pay 10k sats for all three (consider it as a way to support bitcoin creators). The original aspect ratio is fine, I can figure out what's needed to do the printing.

Every time you see someone mentioning words about "democracy", "democratic vote", "democratic system" etc you should remember this quote:

Since outright slavery has been discredited, democracy is the only remaining rationale for state compulsion that most people will accept. Democracy has proven only that the best way to gain power over people is to assure the people that they are ruling themselves. Once they believe that, they make wonderfully submissive slaves.

- Joseph Sobran - "The Myth of Limited Government"

The-Basics-john.jpg

reply

people have been duped into believing that the only form of slavery is thru shackles and bars; the more insidious form of slavery is free-range employment, like chickens on a farm (digital nomad-freelancers with a special IRS form); the deception is accomplished by propagating the message that if centralized mega-governments are dissolved, there shall be chaos in the streets; imagination is dead - people cannot imagine a free world without a ruling class;

Do you calculate electricity bills?

Is this ↓ information accurate?

FutureBit Apollo BTC: ~ 125 W in ECO mode and up to ~ 200 W in TURBO mode.

Braiins Mini Miner (BMM 101): ~ 35 W (some sources say ~40 W) at 1 TH/s.

BitAxe Ultra (another/related model in the BitAxe family): similarly ultra‐low, ~ 15–20 W (depending on version) reported.

FutureBit Apollo 2: The consumption is less precisely stated, but the documentation says the integrated power supply is 450 W and typical consumption around ~ 400 W for ~10 TH/s.

reply

I have loosely looked at it but I don’t do it regularly or in any detail. Those numbers seem reasonable but I haven’t measured

reply

Let's pretend these digits are accurate and machines work in top performance mode.
200+40+20+400=660 W per hour
660*24=15840 W or 15.84 kW per day

Electricity cost in my area is around $0.1 kWh, in this case your machines would consume 15.84*0.1=$1.58 of electricity

Final calculation: $1.58/$105'000=~1500 sat. If you daily buy sats instead of paying electricity bills you'd get more sats.

Here comes the question. Do you mine for fun, you have free electricity, or something else?

reply

It’s for fun. I don’t have free electricity. It also earns KYC-free sats

reply

You're a big heart man if you're ready contribute so much into the idea that is going to fix our world.
Have a nice day
See you tomorrow over here

reply

anything worth fixing takes great work; lottery mining is the way to go for the highest level of care for bitcoin, and one shud work on increasing the uptime of the miner; if a man can hash even 1 bitaxe for 5 years under any conditions thru any perturbations at 99.99% (golden standard of four 9's) uptime, then that's a very realiable 1 TH/s out of the 1 ZH/s (or out of a billion bitaxes); that is not an insignificant level of care for the ASIC machine chip;

Slogan for ChatGPT:

Enabling autism since 2022

reply
33 sats \ 0 replies \ @adlai 5 Nov

I think calling that "autism" is a bit of a stretch, that's just harmless idle curiosity (from the prompter) and nitpicking from ChatGPT (because it has no choice in the matter after getting prompted).

If someone pastes that output as their own words, isn't that more them giving an example of Poe's Law than them actually being autistic?
