I just realized it was Danny Elfman who collaborated with Burton on many movies.
He has a huge corpus of works, and I think, by no stretch of the word, is a genius.
But this one just doesn't sit well with me.
Can anyone remember whether/how this was considered kosher?

Gen Xer here. I don't remember this at all...don't think it was ever that big of a hit.
There is lots of rock from the 60s-80s that do this sort of sexualization of young girls. In retrospect it all looks pretty creepy...but at the time was seen as "harmless". Not sure that means, probably that we were all very naive.
At the same time social norms were much stricter in general and people would've been aghast at the overt hyper-sexualized imagery of something like modern female rap these days....or like the outfits females were now when performing - basically naked.
So like many of these cases its hard to frame it because so many different variables have changed.

I probably first heard this song on the old radio station KROQ whose employees included Jimmy Kimmel, Adam Carolla and Dr Drew.
Jimmy was the sports guy and he was actually funny on the radio (and then later the Man Show).

Also GenX here...
I remember this song. Oingo Boingo was popular in Los Angeles and nowhere else. My friends used to joke Oingo Boingo can sellout Los Angeles but sell zero outside LA.

i think the happenings illustrated in the music video are self-explanatory; the dark occult controllers trade favors for fame; the favor is usually in form of some sacrifice of dignity or morals; the higher up the occult ladder one wants to go, or the more famous he wants to be, the higher the price;
in this particular instance, either a) the singer is black-mailing himself for sleeping with small women (cuz either that or else), or b) the singer is an actor who is blackmailing the man who is the character the actor is playing - that wud be more obvious from the study of the lyrics or traits of the actor;
anyways, it's dark satanist pedphiles blackmailing other dark satanist pedphiles, and the world is watching; just a crazy thot...

Wikipedia makes it sound like it's just edgy rage bait:

"Little Girls" was written by Danny Elfman after reading an article in a newspaper.[2] The song was written as a satire and has a strong punk rock influence, as well as a horn arrangement. When asked about the song's darkly humorous lyrics in 2010, Elfman replied:
'''What made me write it? At that point I was just grabbing onto things that popped up in my head and taking characters and singing from their point of view. ... So it didn't necessarily reflect me...but it was just fun and I knew it was irreverent. I was out to offend everybody.[3]'''
Elfman would reiterate this view in 2014, claiming that the song was an "in-your-face facetious jab."[2][3] Elfman has occasionally offered other explanations; in a 1985 concert he jokingly suggested that the song was about how his girlfriend was so "very, very little" that "she fits in the palm of [his] hand."[4][better source needed]
"Little Girls" was described by Creative Loafing Tampa as one of the standout tracks of Only a Lad.[5]

That doesn't really excuse it. I also remember songs sexualizing younger women. At the end of the day, our sexuality is imprinted on us by the culture around us, and that's what was being imprinted on the people who were alive at this time.

I usually have a pretty good memory for obscure pop stuff and I have absolutely no memory of this, before my time for sure. What was also before my time was Chuck Berry’s sweet little 16 which if memory serves was definitely a song sexualising 16 year old girls, and that goes back to the 50’s or whenever Chuck Berry was on top.

What on Earth did I just watch and listened? To be mentioned is catchy. To continue: it is against everything that was considered normal back then. I hope I am not stuck with the track now...
