I am in a situation where I have to power a miner off and on regularly. Is there a proper way to do this, or are most miners built with the expectation that they would be turned off and on frequently? Is the degradation over time even a concern?

The best way, if you can, is to use the interface and shut it down properly, like through the GUI, SSH, or your miner management tool. It’s good practice to wait about 30 seconds after the fans stop before cutting the power. Not sure if you plan to leave it off for long periods, but that’s not great for the machine, those thermal cycles aren’t good for the electronics.

This is what I try to do as well. Stop the mining process, let the chips cool down, then shut the whole machine down

Usually I just pull the plug, but this sounds like the right way to do it.

There shouldn’t be a problem, I mean, I’m guessing the manufacturers build these machines to handle power cuts. But, you know, good practices exist for a reason, they help keep the thing running well for longer.

Sure. I'm going to turn it off properly from now on

The proper way is to whisper 'goodnight, sweet prince' before shutdown 😂

If I have time to do it, I stop boss miner service before shutdown.
I don't know if it is proper way or not but probably does not hurt to do it.
