It might be far-fetched but also platforms are much less permanent than we imagine them to be.
There are a lot of people who love the Reddit format but hate how Reddit is managed. Stacker News is for all of them and they just have to figure that out.
BTW There are also people who hate how SN is managed.
I actually don't wanna compare SN to any other platforms. It's unique.
We can acknowledge that SN is it's own thing without pretending it isn't more like some things than others.
It's a much more natural fit for Reddit refugees than TikTok refugees.
Yes I agree in this sense. I'm sure you've listened about 'Quora'. I think SN is closest to it, not reddit.
I'm familiar with Quora but I haven't followed anything going on with it.
Personally, I think Quora is what other social medias should be. I’m not a fan of Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and so on. It becomes too much about me, “look at my perfect life”. I generally love to see people share their stories to the benefits of others and that's where quora excels.
I think it's not much popular in USA because reddit is all over there. It's very popular for discussions in India and Europe or in many parts of the world. I often find good content there, although it has almost nothing for Bitcoin related discussions.
I'd have ranked SN closer to Bitcoin talk but I see SN has versatility in content like quora has.
You're right that we don't think about Quora much, but I can see how it's pretty similar.
Do they just have simple up and down votes for answers or do they have a bunch of other random crap like Reddit?
Nothing else afaict. The only crap there is that you see an advert after every two three answers. However they won't bother you if you can ignore them.
who hates how SN is managed?
Commie freeriders
I think I've seen a few critiques:
- someone felt that there was not enough moderation / consequence for abusive behavior
- people think the rewards are gameable with friends zapping friends
anything else?
I think there's not enough incentive to downzap. Coupled with the log function on the zap amount, you can barely even influence the posts' visibility
Combined with the trust weighting too, right?
Downzapping is rightly an advanced feature.
Cowboy Credit shitcoinery
true, true.
They should realize that it's not shitcoinery when the chief crusader against shitcoinery doesn't consider it that
Great answer!
Chatterboxes
Good question
I'm not a fan of Reddit. But I wanna break the myth so....It's a far fetched lie that SN will ever replace reddit. However the truth is that It'll or it has already successfully replaced r/Bitcoin.
