Great question. Samsung kinda sucks, but I was able to side load apps into the Tizen OS.
The status quo is to get some HDMI device with Android TV on it. You can now also control that with the TV remote...

yeah i was looking at this as my fallback and trying to send commands to the tv through hdmi
