Maybe @TheWildHustle can expand @RUNSTR to do the same kind of challenges that @Workit_LN was doing.
There's definitely demand for it.
TheWildHustle really wants to make something cool for the community. He'll provide more info later......he's bullish.

Looking forward to it and I'm glad to see third person style has returned to your comments

Life is good.
If you were to use RUNSTR, what do you think would be your highest priority features.
RUNSTR currently has
  • An activity Tracker
  • Users can create teams
  • Users can challenge each other to 1v1 competitions
  • Teams can create events
Any thoughts?

I would really love for Runstr to support Garmin sync so I don't have to carry my phone in order for the run to get recorded in Runstr. I think I requested it before and you told me it has something to do with privacy or something along the lines. But if you can somehow make it work, it will make using Runstr so much more convenient.

I received access to the garmin API
Roadmap is looking like
  • Increase app speed and performance
  • Optimize activity tracker
  • Ensure Team/Event functionality works seamlessly
  • Apple Health/Garmin Sync
And just for curiosities sake, do you have a subcription to any fitness app? Why/Why not?
reply
Great! Good to know it's on the roadmap.
I just started subscribing to Strava. I had been using it for free without subscribing for many years, but finally gave in, because I wanted to use their route planning tool. I've used other free, web based, route planning sites/apps, but Strava's is still the best. It used to be free and became a premium feature.

What Workit was doing, that many of us were enjoying, is creating challenges with buy-ins: i.e. everyone pays in 10k sats for a challenge to hit 10k steps everyday for a week and those who accomplish the challenge split the pot.
It's a super simple but powerful commitment device to help people hit their activity goals.

They arent doing it anymore?
Did they have a step counter in the app?
reply
Yes, they had a step counter.
The challenges still happen but the stakes are uselessly low because they haven't fixed a security vulnerability and aren't comfortable handling significant amounts of value.

Previously had a NIP60/61 ecash wallet for everyone, but thinking about transitioning to NWC and lightning wallets......or probably just NWC for now.
NWC wallet to send and receive and daily rewards for your first workout, to be included in something like a marketing budget.
The idea behind runstr has shifted towards Teams/Competitions/Workouts
The beta version will be available on IOS/Zapstore by the end of the month
Features
  • Track your workouts (Running/Walking/Cycling/Manual input)
  • Post your workouts to nostr social feeds/Save your workouts to nostr relays
  • Teams create events like 5k's and will be able to charge entrance fees
  • Teams can choose a charity to support and display on the teams page
  • Users can create 1v1 challenges and include 1v1 sat wagers.
  • Daily Rewards for your first workout of the day (probably like 50 sats for now)
  • Sync workouts from Apple Health and Garmin
Would be cool if Bitcoin Runners had a team on the app, and could create virtual 5k events charge sats and have the funds set directly to their node and donate a percentage to the ALS institute.
Users could go on a run with nike run club or some app on their apple watch take a shower and while the shower heats up, pushes the workout to a compeition or event being hosted by another bitcoiner, check to see if they've been challenged to any 1v1 compeititons and create a 1v1 challenge qr code to post on social media to see if there are any takers.
Will monetize by offering a subscription for premium stuff (Mainly entrance into the RUNSTR SEASON 2 competition (Will talk to the folks at Crowdhealth to see if they'd want to sponsor the 3 month event) Other premium services will probably be the unlock of Coach runstr, a try maple integration to give you advanced insight into your workout data etc.

I say two weeks, but The RUNSTR SEASON 2 will start in 2026 with most of the bells and whistles working. Most of the functionality is already there, just need to polish/test/finish the unfinished.

TheWildHustle would be interested to hear your thoughts.

It sounds like the teams could potentially do what we used Workit for.
