Curious that this post isn't showing in the 'hot' tab, though it's new and has a ton of votes.

I'm assuming it also has a lot of downvotes? Seems like you could "disappear" posts with downvotes, if I'm reading the below correctly.

("Item"."weightedVotes" - "Item"."weightedDownVotes" + ("Item"."weightedComments"*0.25) + ("Item".boost / 5000))
/ POWER(GREATEST(3, EXTRACT(EPOCH FROM (now() - "Item".created_at))/3600), 1.1) AS hot_score,
("Item"."subWeightedVotes" - "Item"."subWeightedDownVotes" + ("Item"."weightedComments"*0.25) + ("Item".boost / 5000))
/ POWER(GREATEST(3, EXTRACT(EPOCH FROM (now() - "Item".created_at))/3600), 1.1) AS sub_hot_score

this territory is moderated

no downzaps. low trust rank (in news terr) zaps

Cool - where do you get these graphs from?

I see - so you can see downvotes in general, but not on a particular post?

Very interesting.

fwiw it doesn't have a ton of votes - it has a lot of sats, but from only two zappers. Each zap's impact is weighted by the zapper's zap trust in that territory (do they zap good stuff early and often in that territory) and is proportional to log10 of the amount they zapped.

I realize this is confusing and opaque. In November we plan to remove trust from ranking which should make things way more intuitive

reply

Thanks for the reply. Just seemed like previously similar posts of mine have been visible on "hot". Now I'm scrolling through multiple screens and still don't see it, it's only visible on "recent".
I assume there's no way to see downvotes for a post?
Looking forward to the November update.

It's in hot in ~news at least: https://stacker.news/~news

reply

Got it. I guess I always assume that "hot" mostly captures everything I want, so I rarely go to the separate areas, such as news.

But if someone really wanted to heavily downvote something - they could totally bury a post, is that correct?

Boost is like a zap in reverse (trust and log10 of the amount), but yes they can bury a post if there aren't many zaps on it.
