I remember going to Big Cat Rescue (Yes, that Big Cat Rescue) in Tampa around 15 years ago. The guide told us that domestic cats and wild big cats aren't much different in behavior. Crazy Floridians have been keeping big cats for years. The cats bond with people just like a small cat does. The danger is that the occasional scratch you get from your cat isn't as deadly. Deaths are usually accidental. Considering the source, I can't vouch for the accuracy of this theory.
