I do think that a distinction can be made between travelers and tourists. When I had the good fortune to live in Japan, the website couchsurfing was in vogue. Through it, I got to stay at locals’ homes and see their neighbourhood (and nation) through their lens. I also opened up my apartment to couchsurfers - and it was so fun reuniting with them when I visited them in their homelands, such as South Korea and Taiwan.
You made me miss travelling!
