Hello there. Long time nostr user, and now that nostr is all but dead I thought it would be the perfect time to start writing on here (mainly to my own relay). I'm 37, which probably puts me around the typical age on nostr. And, like many others, I was basically raised by television, and specifically MTV.
I've been revisiting much of the music that I grew up on. I was probably around 10 or 11 when I started watching and being interested in Music myself, but I was also the youngest of 3 so I was constantly watching MTV (whether I wanted to or not) from as early as I can remember.
I have a tendency to get really intensely into a particular band or album, and I'll listen to it over and over and over in short periods of time. I like to catch new things in songs when I listen to it louder or with headphones on or after listening to it for the umpteenth time. I really enjoy when I get into the zone with music (which, unfortunately, seems to happen less as I get older).
It just so happens that right now, I find myself motivated to dive into some of the more memorable music I heard growing up, and expand my past experience by reading up on the band or artist, and listening to more of their discography. I don't know shit about music, at least no schooling on it. But, there are two things I want to try and explore:
  1. An exercise in blogging and writing with some consistency. My plan is to write one post a week, and publish it during the week. I want to challenge myself to focus and be mindful of completing some consistent writing.
  2. Years ago, I heard someone talking about Art while on a City Walking Tour (Don't Ask), and one thing he mentioned really stood out to me. Paraphrasing, he said: Art isn't necessarily about whether you like it or not, it's about whether it makes you feel. That always stuck with me. So, as I listen and explore music from my youth, I'll be keeping that in mind as my guiding principal in these posts.
With all that said, I've already been listening to an album and plan to write about Fiona Apple. I'll probably dive into some interesting facts I learned about her, then highlight some of the songs from her (might just be from her first album 'Tidal'). I'll be posting something in the next day or two, and then from there I hope to post weekly thereafter.

Mtv was definitely a kind of programming--in more ways than one.
