If I was a Texas fan, today I would be livid. What the hell are they doing scheduling Ohio State week 1? Normally top teams schedule a few fruit cakes to get the vibes up before they take on a tough opponent.
I didn’t watch the game but Arch looked awful. Exposed! After what I seen I wouldn’t draft him in the first round! It’s clear he needs more development.
The Texas scheduling team needs to be slapped.
These games are booked years in advance so how good the teams would be would exactly be known. Just like we had Clemson and LSU last night which hurt Clemson bad and we have ND against Miami tonight.
Hell A&M did this to themselves last year with week one at home against ND
Yeah that is true Saban was a wizard with scheduling.
I hate to imagine what he was doing during last nights game since they lost to FSU....
They wanted a big kickoff weekend so they scheduled some primetime games. Not great for the schools involved but makes sense to do considering they start a week before NFL.
Arch will bounce back. I don’t think he is coming out after this season anyways.
I do laugh at the Aflec kickoff game being the Tennessee vs Syracuse game lol
I bet we are going to see lots more of this given new unlimited transfer rules + direct revenue sharing with student athletes.
These programs now are incentivized to create big media events to get some Day 1 income to pay for their hot new transfers.
Also the 12 team playoff makes regular season less important
This is true.
Agreed.
Maximize TV money and ratings
I can't believe I have to point out the obvious
Will he though? Like he looked completely overwhelmed against NFL level talent
He is 21 years old. I am sure he will get better. Didn't Peyton Manning throw 4 picks in his first NFL game?
Yeah on a bad Indy team. Texas is stacked marginal play from Manning and Texas wins.
Plus all the hype around him and you come out with a dud like that it’s absolutely terrible. We have to ask ourselves are we elevating Arch because of his last name or his actual play on the field ?
Fair but he was pretty good last year.
In spot duty and a few starts. Now he’s the guy all the pressure is on him.
Let's see how he looks next game and then the next big time game.
Its been the hot thing to do for the past few years. It worked out in LSU's case...
I think the theory is that an out-of-conference loss against a comparably ranked team doesn't really hurt the program that much from a pure calculation perspective.
In the case of Texas, you're right though that Arch looked pretty poor given the hype that surrounds him. Obviously he can bounce back, but it did tarnish him in the press...
OP longs for the old days before NIL and 12 team playoffs
Those days are long gone
It was just their preferences, negotiated with federation
