The future is "supervised" AI. These places will put AI back in, but it will work like this:
There will be a call center somewhere (india?) where there will be human operators overseeing 10 or live drive-thru order screens. The AI assistant we be doing the transcribing of the normal conversation and the operator will simply be 'approving' in most cases....in case something goes crazy, the human operator will jump in to complete / disambiguate the order.
I'm still really surprised the DOT is allowing "driverless cars" to be tested (to be fair they all now require a human overseer), however the concept that this tech is anywhere close to being able to handle the complexity of driving is a fantasy. We don't even have AI driven trains and they expect it to handle city streets?!?
