My favorite bit is actually this one about a competitor that pulled their AI:

Last year McDonald's withdrew AI from its own drive-throughs as the tech misinterpreted customer orders - resulting in one person getting bacon added to their ice cream in error, and another having hundreds of dollars worth of chicken nuggets mistakenly added to their order.

Now I want to add bacon to McDonald's ice cream on purpose. You can totally add bacon to a Five Guys shake (no extra charge, even), so why not?

The future is "supervised" AI. These places will put AI back in, but it will work like this:

There will be a call center somewhere (india?) where there will be human operators overseeing 10 or live drive-thru order screens. The AI assistant we be doing the transcribing of the normal conversation and the operator will simply be 'approving' in most cases....in case something goes crazy, the human operator will jump in to complete / disambiguate the order.

I'm still really surprised the DOT is allowing "driverless cars" to be tested (to be fair they all now require a human overseer), however the concept that this tech is anywhere close to being able to handle the complexity of driving is a fantasy. We don't even have AI driven trains and they expect it to handle city streets?!?

Your answer is brilliant...
And just like you, I don't see AI-driven cars as possible yet.

Having worked in drive thru, I welcome ai to do most of the order taking. Of course human backup is still needed at the moment
