I was signing up for a conference that accepts payment in bitcoin. I chose the option and the following address showed up.
34caqaP9TBbZSqL3EsVNHf1zyrp8gEew1e
It looks weird, as all my trezor addresses start with bc1. Is it a legitimate address? I skipped payment because thought if I pay, the funds will be gone.
Though not good for privacy you could just look it up on mempool.space https://mempool.space/address/34caqaP9TBbZSqL3EsVNHf1zyrp8gEew1e
if its an invalid address it will show it as invalid
Yes.
This will explain it better than I can.
"How to identify a bitcoin address? You can identify the type of a bitcoin address by looking at the first letters of it. If it starts with "1", it's a legacy address which are the most expensive fee wise. If it starts with "3", it's a P2SH address. If it starts with "bc1q", it's a native segwit and if the first 4 letters are "bc1p", it's a taproot address."
Different wallet type. I tried it in blue wallet, and it seems to be valid because it took me to the confirmation page when I plugged in an amount. If I change the last character to something else, it doesn’t let me proceed because it’s invalid
Good call on being cautious. That looks like a legacy address easy to second guess when you are used to bc1. 😅
Look up "wrapped segwit."
What OP stated wasnt wrapped SegWit address but old Script Hash address
https://www.unchained.com/blog/bitcoin-address-types-compared
Has prefix "bc1q"
Has prefix "3", which is (again) what op stated in above post
What am I missing?
Doesnt nested segwit start with 3?
Nested SegWit is one example of Script that P2SH address can carry hence i said
If u still have doubt in mind look up https://mempool.space and paste the address there, mempool.space will show the address type as "P2SH"
It's still an empty address atm, the spending condition will be revealed after it has been used to conduct outgoing transaction
