Just in case you didn't get enough of the Home Run Derby on Monday night, last night's All Star game was tied 6-6 after 9 innings (AL came back from down 6-0) and went to a swing off. I didn't even know that was a thing.
Apparently the ASG swing off tiebreaker rule was put into place a few years ago but wasn't needed until this year. Pretty fun idea. Each team gets 3 hitters who each get 3 swings (swings, not pitches, you can take as many as you like) and whichever team hits the most home runs wins the game. The National League ended up winning the swing off 4-3 without needing to use their final batter.
Essentially the baseball version of a shootout in hockey or penalty kicks in soccer.
It was definitely a fun way to end what was a pretty boring game in the early innings but very exciting in the later innings. Overall the all star events were quite good. Not on par with the four nations faceoff but good.
Sats for all, GR
Sorry it’s America’s way past time…. It’s funny the youth baseball programs are a business. Extremely expensive gear, travel teams, and how many make it to the big leagues vs poor people from Central America with no money…

The best players aren't even coming from the youth baseball programs aka travel ball teams anymore.
With the Central American players when they sign and go off to their academies they do go to school and get an education which otherwise for some would not be the case.

Got ya. Youth sports in America is a scam on nieve parents steal being a kid from kids

I didn't know that rule existed either, I also had to go to YouTube to see what it was like... hahaha

It's a fun way to end an ASG.

It was at least a fun way to end a meaningless game.

Who pitched for the hitters??? Curious on if each hitter had one of if the AL and NL all used the same person cause I was unable to watch the game due to getting hit with error codes....

Some coach on their team. I am guessing whoever threw BP prior to the game.
