I really enjoy Super's takes on LN privacy vs Monero privacy. I know it irritates a lot of people but in the long run I think it helps both projects.
I will certainly forget to watch this / be otherwise occupied, but I hope someone will post a follow-up once it's happened!

Besides when he is making songs, dunking on Monero supertestnet is my favourite supertestnet. Although I still haven't forgiven him for abandoning SN and being a dick to k00b about cc's.

It has also altered my perception

I asked him about this recently and he is recalcitrant.

I learned a new word today.

"debate"
reply
In what sense do you deploy your quote marks?
reply
I was under the impression that Monero is dead/ridiculous, so there is no debate

Monero is thriving better than ever, where are you getting your information?
reply
"better than ever" is a low bar if you're starting from zero/irrelevance

Indeed, I 100% agree with you. I wish more people would argue about these things using technical info and logic. I will say I've not been very impressed with the Monero people's responses.
Edit:
And I hope he doesn't straw-man Monero.
I'm probably gonna piss off some people but my main issue with Monero maxis is there seemingly complete lack of considerations of trade-offs around privacy vs. transparency. The second thing I often see is very limited understanding of game-theory, human psychology and economics. Its all about privacy. Privacy matters but market forces, economic theory, and game theory all matter and you can't have all of it without losing some of each. Its not nearly as cut and dry as people make it.
The layered approach makes a lot more sense to me. If you don't have what bitcoin has as its base value prop privacy is useless.

Monero is for government agents. He will effectively be arguing with spooks. The more attention he gives Monero the more government agencies will pay attention to him. Maybe that’s what he is trying to achieve. 🍯
reply
Why do you think Monero is full of government agents?

Because I’ve been in Bitcoin/Crypto long enough to know.
reply
I second this. I mean, I can guess. If I was an agent I'd be all over monero as well as bitcoin.

I would like to see some actual arguments against LN from Monero fans. It's always "bUt YoUr CuStOdIaN kNoWs EvErYtHiNg!!1!!!!!" like Monero in someone else's custody doesn't face the same problems.

@supertestnet is a total baddass. I'd vote for him for president if he ran.
reply
Awesome! We’ve had dance battles, music battles, and now, privacy battles. Go @supertestnet!
