pull down to refresh

This week we head to Crippen Regional Park and take a walk around Killarney Lake. The park is located on Bowen Island, a small island just off the mainland of BC. We visited Bowen Island several times over the years, mostly bringing our car over, but this time, we left our cars at the ferry terminal and boarded the ferry as foot passengers. Crippen Regional Park is located right next to the ferry terminal, so as soon as we arrived on the island and offloaded the ferry, we started our walk towards Killarney Lake, which was about 2km away. Along the way, we passed by forests and a bog, crossed a few bridges, and even saw a beaver dam. Eventually, we reached Killarney lake and took the trail to go once around the lake. It was not a very large lake and the trail was slightly bumpy with sections of exposed woods, but also smooth sections of boardwalks. After walking around the lake and having lunch at the picnic table next to the lake, we made our way back to the ferry terminal using the same trails we came. When nearing the ferry terminal, we saw a swan in the water next to the marina. So we went closer to take a better look at the bird before heading back to the ferry terminal to catch the ferry.
View from the ferry at the terminal. I believe this is looking from Horseshoe Bay towards Sunshine Coast in the northwest.

We passed by a memorial garden.
Small creek flowing next to the trail.
We passed by a ranch. The animals seem to be out though and we didn't know what animal they raised here.
We also passed by a bog. Notice the beaver dam to the left of the photo?
The water / wet part of the bog.
A closer, more focused shot at the beaver dam. We did not spot the beaver.
Typical tall trees of the Pacific Northwest.
We reached Killarney Lake. This is the view at the picnic table spot. We started our walk around the lake from here.

Part of the trail that surrounds the lake.
Boardwalk section of the lake perimeter trail.
Boardwalk heading back into the woods.
Dense growth in the forest.
We spotted a swan near the marina just outside the ferry terminal.
Closer shot of the swan.

I have really nice memories of Bowen island. Wife and I had a great dinner there when we were just married. Haven't gotten a chance to hike around it much, though.

It's a nice little island. Nothing much to do there though. We like to drive to the beaches and just chill there. Because they have rocky beaches, the kids would flip over larger rocks and catch tiny crabs that dwell underneath to play with them.
